Trivia: Who can name the differences between 1986, 1987 and 1988 Toyota Pickups?

1987 and '88 were basically the same exterior. I believe the '87 shared the '86 interior (dash and center console), and the '88 was different. The grill is also different in 1986 having the three parted grill like the 1985. In 1987/88 they went to a two-parted grill.

I also believe the early 4Runners only had either a black or white shell. I think it was in '88 they color matched the shell. It might have been '87, but I'm pretty sure it was '88.
My '87 runner has a black top, buts it's a silver truck... I don't believe they made a silver color matched top

Ok thanks, so it's safe to say a factory service manual for an 86 would be the same for a 87?
Is that all you wanted to know? Yes, there might have been a few differences under the hood, but I don't think the significant changes occurred until 1989. Both 1986 and 1987 used the same engine ECU, IIRC.
edit: note that a 1985 factory service manual is only good for 1985 on efi trucks. The wiring changed in 1986 under the hood.
The '88 manual is a little bit more complete, BTW. That's what I've been using, and the Electrical Manual is extremely useful, much better than the wiring diagrams that are in the big FSM.

yes, that's what I wanted to know. To be more specific I'm planning on putting a 1987 22-RE in a 1986 22R pickup. I have a 1986 FSM. I was wondering if everything would be exactly the same. I blame being an aircraft mechanic/inspector that I do everything by the book, I even torque lug nuts.
