The saga of waffles continues.

Found some time this weekend to start the tank replacement. I used and induction heater on the tank strap bolts and melted a crayon into the threads. First time I tried this method and it worked a treat. Both bolts came out with no issue. I originally though the tank have cracked well turns out the seam had completely rusted it and the tank was in a lot worse shape than I had originally thought. HOLY RUSTo_O

On a side note, I have a slightly used 80 series tank for sale PM me for details lol

Someone had been in the tank before for a fuel pump swap. Couldn't find any markings on the pump but it works fine so back in it goes. Unfortunately the connector for the pump was different so had to swap that out
New tank is assembled and ready for install, I have to clean up and paint the tank straps and skid plate the best I can then going back together. Did get a new charcoal canister and fuel filter too

Spent my lunch break today getting busy with a crud thug and grinding all the undercoating off the skid plate, also trimmed some rust on it. The plate will do its job, it's not the prettiest but I can't justify the cost of a new one right now. Clean it up, rust converter paint ( I know it doesn't work ) and raptor coat or something equivalent will be good enough.

Spent the last two evenings watching paint dry, trying to make the tank straps and skid plate last a bit longer. Started with Permatex rust treatment and tonight was the Por15 rust preventive coating. Let this dry and tomorrow I'll scuff and shoot the final product Raptor Tough Undercoat.

Even though this is probably the cleanest used tank I've ever seen it still had a couple marks that needed some small Touch up spots from when it was removed

Getting close to going back in

Looking good Drew!

I'm expecting a package today...just saying...another project for your list soon.... ;)

Finished up all the reconditioning on the skid and tank straps and reglued the rubber isolators back to the straps. I'm happy with the end result. Currently waiting on a new fuel tank drain plug and gasket, part numbers in case it helps anyone else out

Fuel drain plug- 90105-12116
Gasket - 90430-12245

Went ahead and swapped in the new fuel filter tonight and found out who ever changed it last put it in backwards 😡 not sure how well that was filtering, o well it's fixed now.

Backwards filter, that's nuts! I'm assuming that you re-use your bracket on the 3FE by the looks of it...the 1FZ has it pre-mounted to the filter, which makes it nearly impossible to mount backwards given the offset of how it bolts up.

correct, actually there was a new filter in the back of the truck when I got it, so the was a plus. Yes I did end up reusing the bracket just a quick and dirty wire wheel and coat of paint lol. I did use all new hardware though

And we're done @DC470 came over and gave me a hand getting the tank back in. I did have a leak from the fuel filter apon start up but quickly was solve by giving the banjo bolts a bit more torque

Very happy to have this done !!!

Final piece to the fuel tank saga, got the VC120 Charcoal Canister installed had to do a bit of trimming to the factory bracket but after a bit of massaging she is in and all hooked up. A few of the factory fuel line brackets had rusted through so made some, I'm sure these are still available from Mr. T but didn't take long to bend them into shape

Whipped up this accessory mount utilizing the 3rd row seat braket. Just some round stock and flat plate bent, welded together and bolted some quick fists to it. Currently holding my axe. Fun little project
