Need advice from the experts. The last couple of times I've started my '75 40 after sitting for a week, I've had trouble shifting into reverse. It feels like the clutch hasn't disengaged reverse gear which feels like it's turning. A couple of times, I've also had trouble shifting into 1st or 2nd - can't get into a forward gear at all. After trying a couple of times (without forcing), I suddenly have no trouble shifting into reverse or any forward gear. Clutch fluid level is fine. Transfer case is in the right position. Shifting is fine once I get going.
Any ideas?

Try pumping the clutch to see if it makes any difference.

I know that it sounds pretty basic, but have you checked the level of gear oil in your transmission?

Clutch rod needs adjustment? Something in the clutch assy dragging? Cold gear oil too thick? I once had a 3 speed that had to go into 1st before reverse just to line the gates up.

I think he was suggesting pumping clutch wouldn’t be a solution but rather give an idea what the problem was.
