I have noticed that when my vehicle is cold, it takes the car several seconds to go into reverse once I shift. Once the car is warm, the problem goes away. I have checked the fluid levels and they are in the normal range.

pertinent information is lacking in your post.....................................................................................................................................................................

I have owned the car for 12+ years. it has 323,000 miles, I have not flushed the transmission because when I purchased it with 160,000 miles, I was told not to flush because we didn't know if it had ben flushed before. The majority of the time, it works fine in drive. sometimes when its cold, it will take a wile to shift into second gear and once it does for the first time, it works fine. Recently it is taking several seconds to shift into reverse or drive. it seems to go into gear a little and will move but if I give it gas, it continues to move real slow and then it with shift or jerk a little and then work.

Change the fluid.
Do not hook up a flush machine.

Let the Transmission Pump push the fluid out, measure the amount and replace with New (preferably Toyota).
Do this every time you change oil till fluid looks like New Fluid.

This fluid exchange should be about 1 gallon.

Recycle the old fluid with your used oil.
