Hello. Toyota dealer said the transmission oil pan doesn't have a gasket. RockAuto sells a tranny oil pan gasket with 19 or 20 holes. What gives? Should I use the Toyota FIPG ($18) sealant only?? Might as well change the filter too. I will also change the front main seal ($23 Toyota original) because it's leaking like crazy.
Thanks!

Toyota FIPG
Filter is a screen designed to be flushed and reinstalled. Most generally don't drop pan, just exchange fluid via the trans cooler in front. Use 20 QT (5 Gal) to pour in while the truck is running and pumping oil out.

Search transmission service here.

Toyota FIPG only.

FWIW, I changed the filter on my transmission about 6 months ago. I had never changed it (original owner). It was a waste of time and money. The filter was spotless. No debris whatsoever. I will probably never drop the pan again...

Ok. But it's also leaking around the pan. Don't know why. Thanks for the info.

Yeah I've had it for 5 years (211k) but it had no service history. So might as well do it since it's the best vehicle I've had.

You know, I used to make fun of the OEM folks but seriously, I tried Permatex, The Right Stuff and FIPG and there is no comparison. FIPG goes on better and seals better.

Black for the oil pan and gray for the transmission.

Mr. T knows his sh!t! Don't mess with Mr. T!

Yeah I rather pay a little more to avoid me throwing/breaking things. But Denso is like OEM.

It's not a big deal to do it. Honestly, it gives me peace of mind knowing that it was so clean. I wouldn't have known it without dropping the pan. So, I change my statement that it was a waste of time and money. It bought me peace of mind. :)

Cool man. I definitely agree.

IIRC, the FSM doesn't even have an interval for changing the transmission fluid... There are guys on here that say it is completely unnecessary... I am not one of those guys. :)

I dropped the pan to clean the 4 magnets that reside within, changing the filter is a total waste-its a screen mesh thats generally completely clean. I used the Rockauto gasket and it worked just fine.

Transmission Pan - Toyota red FIPG # 00295-01281 (could easily be mistaken for orange, I suppose)

Oil Pan and Water Pump - Toyota black FIPG # 00295-00103

I don't know what the difference is between the two, other than color, but Mr. T told me to use Red for the Transmission Pan and Black for the Oil Pan. Now, if I would just get around to doing the oil pan...

edit: Weird that they say it's orange. I could've sworn it was red. Then again, I am color blind...

I thought the transmission FIPG was orange.
i just removed my trans pan to install a temp sensor and indeed the sealant was orange. The filter screen was spotless so I don't think i will ever remove the pan again for a regular service. I installed the pan with that permatex that comes in the pressurized can. No leaks yet but i just filled the trans pan with fluid this morning.
