I just got my Cruiser back from Econo Transmission (they replaced a leaky gasket)... as soon as I left (closing time this Friday)... I new and unusual noise occurred ...more in 3rd n 4th gear ... probably coming from the Transfer Case..... why would it do that ?? I just bought this Cruiser .. it drove fine before I brought it in....

Maybe they forgot to put fluid in it after they replaced the gasket
They were only supposed to be working on the transmission ... not the transfer case ... so I’m not sure what could have happened .... I thought maybe they took it out of H2 and that the lever was stuck .. but it seems that it will go into H4 okay ... but when shifting back to H2 I don’t feel a solid “click”... but it does travel down the road .. so it must be in H2 .. right ??

Also ... before I took to Enono Transmission, I took it to Superior Auto on Carolina Beach ... asked them to change the oil, lube and check all the fluid levels ... so if they did what they were suppose to .. all the levels (other than the transmission)... should have been good.

It is not very difficult to check the fluid or both of them. Post up if you need some information on how to do it.

Thank you ... I guess that would be an easy first step ... my plan is to take it back to Enono Transmission tomorrow n see if they can fix whatever they screwed up ..$420 to fix a leak !
(They did have to take the seats out to do it ... but still seems like a lot to me).

Maybe it is ... I bought it from my sons friend in Colorado but it came from NC about 8 years ago or so

Crazy! Could be. I sold it about 8 years ago but to a guy I thought was in another state...somewhere out west.

Does it have factory PTO winch? 4plus rear tire and cooler carrier? Aquala aluminum tub?

Sorry the pics are so small...on my phone.

I have a copy of the “for sale” post from this site from back then. And yes, like I said, it was in Colorado.

Yes it does ... !! It was yours I bet !
Has a 1978 engine ... 4 speed tranny

Yep - freaking small world. Glad it’s still around and looks to be in great shape! That’s awesome!!

I grew up in Southport and my parents still live there. Wife’s parents live in Oak Island. Next time I visit and bring my current 40 I’ll have to take the ferry over to CB and meet up!!

Heck yeah ! Please do

OP, let us know if we can help. What an awesome turn of events. It's good to know the 40 is back here in NC where it belongs.

Crazy story! Awesome. It's great to put a Previous Owner name to a truck...now @John Layland has @S4Cruiser to complain about when things go wrong!

Could this have anything to do with the common fluid transfer issue between transmission and transfer case? But I'm stupid, and very tired, so maybe I'm completely not thinking that through correctly.
