I have a 1979 FJ40 with an aftermarket disc e brake installed on the transfer case. When I purchased the vehicle the caliper was missing and I have not been able to find anything quite like it. Have searched on line and it appears the kit is no longer sold but there are no markings to help me track down the original manufacturer. I am looking for who I might send photos and dimensions to and see if they could identify where I might purchase a caliper.

Yes, it is a Man-A-Fre kit, sold in the 90’s. I have one on my rig. The Caliper is an Airhart and the caliper and brake pads are available on E-Bay. Buy a couple sets of pads….if you forget to release the brake….they don’t last very longe. 🤣🤣🤣

Please note, with the brake release, as you drive around, the caliper will rattle. It’s a bit disconcerting, but you’ll get to used to it. The best part is that if the rear t-case seal leaks, drips in the driveway instead of filling the brake drum with oil and soaking the shoes.

Here is a picture of mine, hanging off the back of my Hone-O-Drive. Had to reorient the caliper to clear the cross member after the overdrive installation. Your installation will be closer to vertical.

Thanks for the valuable input. I would prefer to just make what I have work as opposed to installing the original drum brake. FJ40 currently has been converted to a chevy 5.7 along with an automatic transmission. I believe this has shifted the transfer case back a few inches. I am not sure if the drum brake will fit and the cable will reach. They also come in at around $500 for everything based on what I see. A complete retrofit kit for a disc brake is about the same cost. Hoping I can find the missing caliper for a lot less $.

@Mark Jennings gave the brand of the caliper. You'd need to confirm orientation and dimensions, but it looks like those calipers are still available new...
