Subb'd, and if you dont mind my asking how much did you pay for the Isuzu? I have been lusting after diesel even before I got my cruiser but thinking that if the opportunity arose that I would grab one and rebuild slowly in my garage as my 2F is actually doing quite well.
This thing is gonna be cool. Any idea on the hp/tq figures on that particular engine?
Also, I may be a little biased but those ACC guys are pretty awesome. They are really a great asset to the offroad/Toyota/Landcruiser/MUD/etc communities.
120 HPS and 230 ft-#s are the lower end numbers for the 4BD1T...google searches show engine brokers moving complete long blocks with accs. for about 5K shipped-used good running Unless I find one local for a steal, I'll prolly spend that same cash on a road trip up north and find a toyota oil burner....

Don't mind at all, got mine for $1200 and I helped the guy pull it out of the NPR box truck. It started right up when I went to look at it. He said that it hadn't been started in a year. We put a battery on it and it cranked right up. Smoked a little and as soon as it idled down, it quit smoking and purred like a kitten.

Well UPS and FedEx came to the house today to bring early Christmas presents. The SOA kit from Ruff Stuff came and 100 lb. abrasive blaster from Eastwood arrived. Now the fun begins. Attached Images
From what I have heard from other guys doing this swap, YES. On the down side, when you turn the fuel up, you get more smoke and loose your mpg. Guess that's true for any diesel.

Yeah I think that's pretty standard. If you turn up the juice it makes sense that you will lose some mpgs and get a few adverse effects. I was just curious. I would def get it all running right and then see how you feel about it.

At that price, I'd seriously consider it, but for any more than that, a bolt in toyota compressor would cost less in the long run(adapters and such) as I said before, cost vs. results, unless the 4BD was around what you paid, I'd prolly try to find a yoter. Don't get me wrong, you scored, and I will be paying attention to the progressand I AM jealous
Got an extra frame from a 1987 FJ60 if any body needs one. Looks to be straight and clean. No separation in the rear section and looks like only surface rust. As soon as I get the body off, I will post pictures.
Hey Doug, going to South Carolina tomorrow for an H55/split case. What should I look for to make sure this will mate to my little diesel motor? I think it will work, just wanted to double check with someone who has done this before.
The H55, as long as it's from a 2F, H or HT series Toyota works. The 3b versions input shaft is too long and won't work. There are pre 1985 and post 1985 changes Toyota made by adding a spacer between the transmission and transfer case. If there is no spacer and you have a post 1985 60 you will have to adjust driveshaft lengths and cross members. Look at your existing trans.transfer to see if you have the spacer and compare to the one your getting. If their the same your golden, if not, well a little more work is ahead. But not to hard.
Beyond that, the H55 bolts in the same as the 4 speed.
In the picture, the black box is the stock Isuzu crank case vent oil separator mounted in the stock location. I swapped the 4BD2 oil pan for a 4BD1 pan, and all the connections still worked.
Thanks Doug, looking to make some hoses like the ones you have. I use to work in a hydraulic shop for the Air Force. I think I can still do that kinda work pretty good. Thanks again and I know I will have more questions later on down the road.
Well after 1100 miles of round trip driving this past weekend, the new body is home. Next in line is to cut the top off of the red one and replace it with the the root beer brown one. The body is pretty solid except the roof. The quarter panels and rockers are awesome. There is some rust in the front floor board and the windshield channel that was discovered when the owner started stripping it. Thanks mel lowe (Deo) for helping load the FJ. Will use parts of the old body to patch the red one. This is going to be awesome when I get it all done.

Ya, so that reminds me of the story about the guy selling abe lincoln's axe...he admitted as how the handle had been replaced 3 or 4 times, and the blade might have been replaced once...but it was abe's axe for sure!
Cool build. Nothing wrong with mixing and matching cruiser parts. You've still got a cruiser in the end, in your case a diesel cruiser, so super cool!
