Hibthere guys! Im thinking of doing a 1uzfe conversion but want to know if anyone has ever joined the standard 4 speed manual (h42) with the 1uzfe ? I know oaks put chevy v8 engines in but will it work with a UZ also? Because from my understanding the 1uz is a lot higher revving and my concern is that the higher revving engine wont be suited for the 4 speed

How could its high-revving nature be of concern? With the h41 or h42 that puppy will be screaming on the highway and unless you've got 37" tires and 3:70, you'll be hard pressed not to get that engine to redline in seconds using first gear.

Wikipedia says it is a low reving, high torque engine, for what it's worth. John

A company in Australia makes a kit. Company is called dellows. The whole kit is a little over $2k. But includes bellhousing, clutch, fork, and flywheel. Basically a bolt in setup.

Maybe bolt-in for the drivetrain but not so much for the wiring/harness... that part is fairly uncharted territory as far as I know.

I would LOVE to do this but I think the cost analysis of this vs a GM v8 swap makes it very hard to justify.

The wiring harness is not uncharted. Lextreme.com has done allot of 1uz swaps. I am looking into the same deal on a 40. I know that you can do a 1uz automatic swap using factory Toyota parts.

Good IDEA but I'm finding most of the links on their page, http://lextreme.com/conversion.htm, to be dead.

I'd LOVE to see some solid info on this swap... and would be happy to use an automatic...

I looked into this semi-seriously recently, 1UZ swaps are really common down here into hiluxes/surfs/mini-trucks etc.The wiring is actually really easy - think 5 or so wires to hook up and a couple of relays. The 2UZ is worth a look too - coil on plug ignition and VVT.

The dellow kit looks nicely made, and they do kits for H42s and H55fs. The other option would be to have an adapter plate made to fit a chev auto - TH350 etc. This has also been done down here. You could also use the same plate to use a chev - landcruiser conversion bellhousing for a manual.

Here's a link to one going into a 40:

heres some wiring info

There's a serious amount of info online about these motors, including wiring - uing stock ECU and aftermarket ones. Google is your friend.

The 1uz swap is not as hard as people make it sound. I have done allot of research on it. You can use the bellhousing that bolts to the 1uz and an automtic from a 4runner. You with have to swap the internal components to from the lexus tranny to the 4runner because of the number of shift solenoids. You will be using the case of the 4runner and the gust of the lexus. This will give you a hybrid automatic 4x4 v8 transmission. If you wnt the transmission numbers I will have to dig into my notes to find them. I am planning on using an auotmatic from a 99 limited for my case.

You can get kits (bellhousing/flywheel/clutch) to mate 1UZ/2UZs to H42/55s out of South Africa, I got a quote for this with a complete wiring harness (Spitronic) for ~$1600 USD. Most autos are going to be too long in a 40 :(. Check out the "Ugly Betty" thread if you want to see this setup, he went with a later VVTi setup which is a little more -

Hey tucker do you maybe know of a place in south africa that sell like a complete kit? I dont have a problem with inporting a kit but if i could get it locally it would make it a lt easier

Anything on this?

This is the info I have received from Mark Watson so far... nothing conclusive, yet. This is talking about an early (non-VVT) 2UZ with the attached auto

-------------

hi mark , was looking at the 47 today and i think your best bet is to drop the 2uz in with the auto box and transfer , there will be enough space and at least no mismatch , if you can get it with a original ecu and stuff even better , if not we have a system for it which at the exchange rate to the dollar will work you out about 800 dollars excl shipping , that will do the engine and transmission.
called spitronics , spitronics.co.za

and another thing the sump will be perfect for the 47

---

if i am not mistaken the earlier 2uz non vvt does not have the immobiliser in the ecu , so will be easy , the offset axles will be perfect for the 2uz as they are also offset to the correct side ,
as for the ecu if its the non vvt the spits works well as it eliminates the airflow meter ( uses a map sensor that is supplied in the kit ) , and the gearbox ecu is great as it allows for torque convertor lockup in 1st and 2nd gear when going down hill , when stopping it does not kill the motor as it is setup with the roadspeed sensor so will only activate over a certain speed.

---

spits is all in stock , will take a few days to put together , but i will work a price for you to do a harness complete with new coil and injector plugs , delivery cost not sure will have to find out from dhl. will get some info on the spits for you.

---

hi mark , basically if you get the smaller coils which the 2uz should have on the coils , around 30mm x 8mm then i can do you new plugs , then i can get the new plugs for the injectors , then the wiring will be drop on and plug and play , just will need some pics of the box so i can give you the correct plugs as i have boxes full of them .
but will let you know on the postage
but will send you some pics on how we routed the exhaust on a bj42 so you have some idea
