Toyota saving $$ short cuts 100 to 200 series?

Ok - sounds like a system you need hands on time with to really understand then, as the whole "crawl" button as I've read here is as you say, automation of using the manual locker knob & CDL in the 80.

Is that correct without detail until I get 200 cabin time?

One way to look at it. The 200 series user manual is a dissertation unto itself.

Fair enough O - I'll find & read vs making anybody type it all --- and somehow I'm not surprised either.
Thx for all that (slightly off intended topic started, but excellent info).

Are the Tech Service Info sheets in the FAQ up top? That engine overview leads me to think it's a valuable document if not, esp the way it's so clear.
One link was good (in FAQ's), but not like that. Those are excellent!!

It's from the New Car Features section of Toyota Technical Information System (TIS). For the 2008 200 series (which is where all of the new model information goes), there are hundreds of pages of information about everything 200 series in distinction to the UZJ100.

Best to view these .pdf's on a real browser.

Wow could you post a link to this? Sounds like what I've been looking for.

It would be hugely cumbersome for me to do so and supremely difficult considering my work day.

You can download all of the information yourself at www.techinfo.toyota.com.

You will need to get a 24 subscription for $15 IIRC and you can download everything you need to know about your 200 series.

I posted this else where. When working on the suspensions of my 100s all the bolts were cadmium plated (goldfish color) while the 200 they are not plated. The last time I changed the shocks and rubber bushings at 150,000 there were no frozen bolts and they looked virtually new. That was on a northeast truck. Maybe someone determined that the playing wasn't necessary.
I simply noticed more surface rust under the 200 than the 100 which I attend to with a wire bevy and a can of rust oleum a few times a year.

Fixed. :)

I know this is off topic of the OP, and maybe you should post it in a separate thread, but tell me more about your exhaust modification.

If I'm going to hang with all the high school and college Hey Bo's driving their jacked up trucks, replete with perfect sticker placement, that daddy bought them, I need a loud exhaust......

These are real world issues in the south.

This is the stuff you don't normally know about but are a major quality statement.

Surface rust is to inadequate or lack of rustproofing from the factory. Here the dealer asks you if you'd like it rustproofed before delivery, comes with with a 5 year warranty i think.

I am amazed how some comments from users on forums become known issues. I have an 08 with 80k miles and have not experienced the issues mentioned. What I have learned from speaking to hundreds of customers is that everyone experiences vehicles different and that might just be a normal feeling to some are issues with the vehicle.

The engine/powertrain is not refined because it has known issues such as oil consumption (up to 1.5q per 5,000 miles),

Have not noticed this.

exhaust drone
gas pedal and steering wheel vibrations
and transmission jumping when downshifting in the lower RPM range

How are any of these related to the engine being refined? They have nothing to do with the engine, but more with the complete vehicle.

As for gas pedal and steering wheel vibrations I drove to work today and really tried to find these. Yes, there are some movement of parts when you drive, but that is to be expected of a vehicle that has parts moving. I could not imagine a vehicle where there is no feedback that something is happening.

SWUtah, there's still more than enough Toyota in these. The rust issue is easy to deal w/.

Rust not an issue for me. Just trying to learn more about 200's. Remember when Mercedes were built by engineers to a quality standard. I had a 1984 SL it was built like a tank quality!! Just trying to determine how much of the accountants at Toyota are controlling the build quality vs engineers?

I said that the engine/powertrain was not refined. Yes, the vibration/shift issues would be related to the transmission, not the engine.

I have noticed oil consumption. Engines have tolerances, and when you stack tolerances, they can allow some engines to burn oil, and some to not burn oil. If you google toyota 5.7 oil burning, you fill find lots of threads with people describing the issue. I am burning right around 1qt per 5000 miles, and according to Toyota, this falls within the factory allowable specs.

I have no problems with my steering wheel vibrating. I do have gas pedal vibrations. As a matter of fact, I kinda like it though, as it helps me feel more connected to the road and in tune with the terrain. Some seem to find the issue annoying though.

I am not trying to start a debate. I am only stating issues that I have personally experienced, and issues that others have experienced from reading other post in various forums.

it's nothing personal and ban me if you guys want, but I gotta say you say some really stupid things. when you say smart things i'll "like" them. i'm not a mean guy witha bone to pick - honest.

stupid.

also let's make it clear. you bought yours used iirc. do you have any idea how the prior owner(s) treated your rig? did these so called known issues suddenly appear as i'm presuming you test drove the thing prior to purchase

I tell you what-- go and see for yourself on the Tundra forums and read all you want about oil consumption.

Edit: Here I did the hard work for you: https://www.google.com/webhp?source...v=2&ie=UTF-8#q=toyota+5.7+burning+oil&spell=1

What exactly did I say that was "stupid"? By the way, calling someone stupid is insulting and contrary to your self-assessment as a "not a mean guy".

As to my 200: Yes, I bought it used. It was owned by the owner of the dealership, and obviously was babied with a full service history. I do appreciate your thinly-veiled accusations that my car was somehow poorly maintained by me or the previous owner, and therefore must explain that my car is somehow defective.

I love how whenever someone comments on their truck having an issue, you not only fail to offer any solution, but you go even further to make accusations, and then always seem to boast about how your car has never had any problems.

Were you or were you not banned for this type of behavior in the past? You have already admitted that you were THEROK.

That is really weird. We have 2014 on the lift back in the shop today and I just checked and all the bolts are coated. Granted they are not old yellow cadmium plated anymore, but they are plated for sure.
