I was recently at a tire store to get some warranty work done on a front tire of one of our cars. While waiting I saw some BFG AT's and asked about pricing since I for see some new rubber for the 60 in a couple months. The guy I spoke to was trying to steer me away from the BFG's to the Toyo OC's saying they were a much better tire. Price was about the same so I didn't feel that he was trying to stick me.

Any one have experience with the Toyo OC's? How do you feel they compare?

Thanks,
MT

I assume you mean the toyo a/t. IMHO toyo are great tires. I have never used the at but love the mt except for the price. I dont know if the A/T will be as good off road as the BFG but they should give you many more miles than the BFG's. It depends on what you are usage is. (i.e) daily driver or trail rig. Again this is just my opinion.

I don't know about that particular toyo but the ones I have have worn extremely well. I don't know how the two compare for sidewall strength. The BFG are know for their sidewalls. Not to be a complete cynic but it is possible that they make more money on Toyos vs. BFG even though the price is the same.

The Toyo looks similar to a Nitto Terra Grappler. Personally I would go with the BFG, proven quality.

I bought the Toyo Open Country M/Ts about 6 months ago and I was really surprised to see how smooth the on road ride was with the aggressive tread design. They have three models of the OC the H/T, A/T and M/T which I assume stands for Highway, All-terrain, Mud. I haven't really put them under any sidewall stress yet but in the 6 feet of snow I am sitting in I have not had to put on chains or anything. I took my kids to school ripping through 3 feet of powder!!!

I have also had great experiences with the Open Country ATs on snow on my other vehicle. But I would rather rely on the proven sidewall strength of the BFG for extended us in off-road environments. I don't take my other vehicle off-road.

ditto .. I'm running my first set of Toyos on my 80 and I'm very happy and impresed .. also think the BFG are great tires, but the Toyos are definately more smoth on road than the BFG ..

from all accounts it would be tough to improve on the BFG AT's longevity. Everyone I tlak to says they wear like Iron and last forever. Hard to imgine Toyo's would be even better! if they are then they will make my shortlist the next time I buy tires.

Longevity is the main reason I dont like the BFG's. While I have not had them on my 60 I have run them on several other Road trucks and I never got more than 30 to 35K on a set.

Rekut, youre the first person I have heard that from. My buddy had them on his Toyota 4wd truck and got nearly 70K out of them.

I have heard up to 50K and ,much higher (up to 80K) for bfg on landcruisers, both 60 and 40 series. I don't know much about the toyo's, but all the tire guys I have talkesd to have said the bfg's are the longest lasting, which is part of why i got my mud terrains last summer. Very tough tire. I ran the a/t's for years, awesome tire, better on snow/ice than m/t's, but m't's have much better traction off road.

only time I ever experienced less than 30K with a tire was due bad alignment on ifs truck and not rotating tires often enough, also underinflation on road, etc...

Nobody has won more races than BFG, I believe. That's good enough for me

I got well over 40K out of a set of 35" BFG at's on a Crew cab, long bed F350 and there was considerable tread left...

They wear like Iron if you actually rotate them

I have a set the bfg at's as well on my wife's 80 and they have over 60,000 on them and will last probably another 20,000 or so. they last forever

I'm running BFG A/Ts and will not buy them again for my uses. They aren't bad tires and they last a looooong time but they don't work well in the amount of rain/ice/snow that I see. Siping helps some but not enough to make them good in these conditions. If I was in a drier climate I'd probably continue to run them....

Also check the 80s section, they debate tires like crazy over there.

I just bought 4 BFG AT's for $639 at discount..

I cannot beat that price for most any other 35..

my 62 is my dd and i have the bfg's. can't beat the 3-ply sidewall.

the sidewall is not the strongest. It is actually my only concern with mine..

It is good, but not the best..

What would you rank higher? (Not a trick question - genuinely interested.)
