Yup. 19 or 3/4. Hammer it on and zip it off. Then take back to crafstman doh.

Facebook marketplace buyer: How much is the case?
me: The add says free.
fbb: Is it in good condition?
me: The add states that it is, but it smells like cat pee. Has 4 pictures to prove condition.
fbb: Can you hold it for me? I promise I'll be there.
me: No, that wouldn't be fair to the 4 people who called first, that all say they're on the way.
fbb: Where is it located?
me: The address is in the add. It is at the curb waiting on the first person who shows up.
fbb: But I'm 40 minutes away.
me: Wouldn't be fair.
fbb: A decent person would hold it knowing that I need it.

This is why I typically only sell or give away stuff here on MUD unless I'm donating it. I bet I'd have less trouble if I put a price on it. Why do people getting free things always want you to jump through hoops to accommodate them? I can obviously not make it any more fair or a better deal than free.

You should show them this thread as proof of your fabulousness A hell of a guy.

HA! I'd forgotten about that one.

We unloaded 3 items this weekend on FB Marketplace. Two were sold for money and one was free. The only item that caused us ANY amount of grief was the free cat pee guitar case. The amount of "I'm on my way right now!/Hold it PLEASE!/How much do you want for it?/You're an ass if you let anybody else get it first!" was staggering (yes, I know that there was undoubtedly some smartasses in there). We were so happy when the turd who prompted my original post here actually showed up in his Free Candy* van to take it away, although he would soon afterwards reach out to complain about the "piss smell". I couldn't bear to put that thing in the trash knowing that somebody, somewhere, would actually be happy to have it, but I'm never posting anything "for free" again. Should've listed it for $300 and stated I'd cut a GREAT deal because of the stench. I bet I'd have gotten $50 for it.

Actually, there might have been some grief from the last sale...I saw her pull into @FrackMacker 's driveway. Maybe she rang the bell, too? Meh, it was only grief for him, not me. I got full asking price and she was very nice.

*No, the new owner is not @jfz80

If there ever really is a Purge, people who slow down to look at wrecks and flashing ligjts....even stuff on the other side of the highway,.....they are on my list as first to be purged.
I can agree with that, more so for the other side of the highway. The complainers will be next.

Are we there yet???

A friends of mine's wife is actually writing a research paper on the purge for her doctorate.

Part of it addresses the "purge" as if it was real, would we reject it, accept it, be like the movies, something in between. Talked to her about it a few weeks back over some scotch. I believe she is leaning towards that we would as a society reject it at first but if it was something that indeed kept happening every year eventually it would be accepted and would would be used quite a bit. Not to the movie craziness, although she said it could get that bad after a few decades.

Another part brings up westworld, the tv show. Not to give anything away to those that haven't seen the show (as it differs from the movie) but the park records everything their guests do as an experiment because guests can do what ever they want, kind of like the purge.

She basically says society is held together mostly by three types of people and one greatly outnumbers the others. One side doesn't do bad things because they fear reprisal, either by the law or for religious reasons, hell. The other and much smaller contingent that does good because they universally think it is the right thing to do. There is of course a mixing of the two groups. The last of course is ones that don't follow societies rules either the laws of man or dogmatic law.

Sorry this isn't a rant so... i'll just add

Get off of my lawn.

That would be an interesting read.

I don't wanna get off on a rant here folks, but....

How come it's hard to get things fixed properly and quickly around here? I mean, it's one thing to ask someone to do custom work like a turbo on an 80, but to rebuild a Chevy 4l60E and have it reliably work? I mean that transmission has been around since the early 90s. And before that, and almost identical 700r4 for lots of years before that.

So the story goes:

  1. On the way to an ONSC event - 4l60e dies (back in March)
  2. Brought to a local, recommended by many, transmission shop (Juneish)
  3. $1200 estimate to remove, rebuild, replace and 3 year warranty...not bad...
  4. Go to pick it up and they tell me (after the fact) that there was a problem with the transfer case and they had to rebuild that too....
  5. Would have been nice to know this before they did the work, since I likely could have sourced a Toyota transfer case for much less than what they charged me.
  6. Pick up the truck in a grumpy "I just got screwed" manner
  7. Driving down the road, shifter cable lets loose.
  8. Bring it back to them... no apologies, no oops, no nothing but "we'll take a look"
  9. "Shifter cables aren't in our wheelhouse, but we can replace it for you"..... $250
  10. Picked it up, drove it for a few days, seemed fine
  11. Decide to take it to URE with my daughter (she was home for only a few days so this was a good bonding thing - she's never been offroading)
  12. Transmission blows up on 109.... literally 10-15 miles from URE... VERY close to where it blew up last time
  13. $190 tow bill to get it home - 4 hours on the side of the road in 90+ heat - Cops hassling me - Daughter's limited time home becomes miserable
  14. Again, no apologies, not a word. "Hopefully it's just a blown hose and we can get you back in business"..
  15. Next day "yep, hose came off - she's all set come and get her"
  16. 2 days later I have plans to tow the boat, but figure better take her for a quick drive just to be sure.
  17. Doesn't shift out of 2nd gear.
  18. Call them to come get it... .they're on vacation this week... Comes next week and tows it away
  19. 3 weeks pass by... I call them about every 2-3 days and get the same statement: "He's finishing it up now, should be done later today, he'll call you when it's ready"
  20. NOBODY HAS EVER CALLED ME..... EVER.... I've had to keep calling and been told it's ready today or tomorrow..... for 3 ****ing weeks
  21. Finally I tell them WTF is going on and they admit that they can't figure it out. Apparently the coolant temp sensor is telling the TCU it's at -40 degrees
  22. "Electrical problems aren't in our wheelhouse" MOTHER OF GOD, WHAT WHEEL HOUSE ARE YOU IN? Transmission shop that doesn't do TCU wiring or shifter cables?
  23. They tell me they're sending it to a specialist... but FYI - he charges $80 an hour for diagnostics.... I'm like "whatever man" because at this point I'm numb... But ultimately I'm going to make them pay for whatever this guy charges.
  24. Specialist has it for a week - no calls from him even though I was told "he'll call you tomorrow"
  25. Talk to the specialist - he's like "oh, that truck they brought over from XYZ transmission shop?, we haven't looked at it yet"
  26. That was a week ago. I've called them twice since. Finally got to talk to the electrical guru guy...
  27. "Well, we tested the sensor and it's good. I even swapped in another TCU and that didnt' fix it either. Next thing we're trying is checking all the grounds."
  28. I said "well, maybe the wire from the sensor to the TCU is misrouted/cut or the sensor isn't the right one"
  29. He basically took offense to me trying to help "way ahead of you man. and just to let you know, I've been doing diagnostics on these transmissions since they were new, so I've got this"
  30. Ya sure?
And that's where we are now... Lots of money, couple of months of waiting, and still no truck. No apologies given by anyone. A simple "sorry man, this is definitely not typical" would have gone a long way. But instead every time I call I get the impression that I'm an annoyance.

I'm holding off on naming the company and posting some scathing Google/Yelp reviews until the work is completed and I've given it a 1000 miles with some towing included. But based on all of the above I'm planning on submitting a claim to them for the tow and any additional money I have to pay to this electrical guy.

And to think.... I was gonna have Rice drop in a replacement, but the idea of a 3 year warranty sounded good.

FMT (truck).... :)

Sad......

Even sadder that i've heard tons of stories like this before

Unless there is someone you know personally or have worked with many times before I normally tell people to just replace rather than rebuild (unless rebuilding is something you can do yourself)

Sucks dude

yyyyeah-im-afraid-thats-just-not-in-my-wheelhouse.jpg

What Ramon said, I was thinking the same thing. I use the same trans in pull out swaps, just not worth rebuilding one at that price.

Now I know where your comment came from...sucks for sure. I'd be livid, which I'm sure you are too!

UPDATE:

Apparently, all the scantool results being wrong had a lot to do with the fact that they thought it was a 1995 transmission but it's actually a 1993. So once that was changed, all the sensors came back normal. duh....."He told me it was a 95" yeah... he did. Makes me wonder if the rebuild was done right, and what changes were made in those 2 years.

The other remaining issue is that whoever wired this truck up to begin with wired the torque convertor switch to the brake lights, with the effect that the torque converter was only locked when the brake was pushed. Makes some of the weirdness of how it felt when driving make more sense.

So he's going to fab up the right switch and get it wired into the TCU and I'll be all set.

If I get a few camping trips out of it this year, I'll be 'happy'

The TC requires a signal to lock up, it comes through a relay that is operated by a signal from the brake light switch. It should be normally on and turned off by the brake light switch. Sounds like he used the wrong relay set up.

Virtually every year of the 4l60e had changed to it except the 93-94 years I believe.

Looks like all the rebuild kits are the same for the 93 versus the 95 so at least the internals are likely correct.

...but I'm never posting anything "for free" again....
Had some construction leftovers that we had listed for free 2 weeks ago. They had 2 views as of last night before we relisted them $12. Multiple inquiries today. They should be picked up in the morning.
