Does no one ask where the 'education' lottery money went? We had enough money to fund schools before the lottery, then they get hundreds of millions more $$$, and now we don't have enough?

Not to mention those really cool "plastic security barriers/ticket dispensers" that gas station register jockeys can hide behind during a robbery.
Our state lottery has always been a source of wonder because so many thought it would be a financial fountain. When looking at the total contribution from the lottery it's obviously not zero, but is very small.
Last year the NC lottery paid $100 million into the state ed system.
The largest % of the education budget is teachers at 51% ... which cost the state $3.9 Billion.
That's 2.5% of what was paid to teachers alone.

Why did Ford make so many different variations of the 6.0 in a 7 year production run? Why do they torture me so?
Block has 18mm dowels to locate the heads. Machine shop sent heads with 20mm dowels. That's ok, Ford makes an updated head gasket and step-down dowels to accomodate this. Just need to order new head gaskets. Good thing they're cheap
Turns out that the new heads also probably use new injector hold downs. If I use the wrong ones, I'll hydrolock the motor. I can't look up which ones to use because I don't know which VIN these heads are correct for. They're new castings, so probably the newest revision, but I can't confirm! That's fun.
In case that wasn't enough, ford had at least 3 different rocker box designs. My motor was a 04.5, which had the later revision injector oil rail, but an earlier revision rocker box somehow, that had 8, 10mm bolts holding the rocker box down with the head bolts. The newest revision head only has 2 10mm bolts. The new rocker boxes I got have 6 10mm and 2 12mm bolt holes, but the 12mm bolt holes have a different offset than the 10mm bolts, so when I put the rocker boxes on the engine, they'll be held down only with head studs. Granted, those 10 head studs get torqued to ~220ft/lbs each, but still, I'd hate to have a leak at the rocker box forcing me to pull the heads off.
If this truck doesn't run like a raped ape when I'm done then I swear to god I'm going to drive it off a cliff.

And another thing! I got suckered into going back to work for the second half of April. Been out of it since September. How the hell do people get up every morning and deal with this s***? I mean, not everybody can love what they do. I didn't anymore; that's why I stopped. Turns out I still hate it. Also turns out that the official work radio station is still 99.7 where they happily play the same 40 songs that have made up the entirety of their collection for the last 25 years. New rule goes into effect today: Since it's my stereo...my hammer. Keep that s*** off when I'm there or sweep up the pieces. I'm only here for 16 days, you'll survive. My days there are 10-14 hours solid with others coming by for 2-3 hours - don't ruin my flow, and don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

My wife, who is a teacher, laughs at the education lottery. Someone is making bank but it is not the education system.
Teachers should be paid around 100k per year. Make the best and brightest fight for the jobs. Have an in room assistant. Get rid of all admin staff including Principals and Assistant Principals. Build portals / websites for all admin duties.
Tenure would be 36 months at the most.
We would be on our way to the best schools on the planet. Now we just pay admin to make rules and WASTE money as fast as the defense department.

well they are public servants (teachers), so a candidate could run on that platform and see if they get elected.
I'm more of a fan of school days being 4 hours for K-12 and college being 2 years. That would save a boat load of money up and down the government.

They gave up trying to make it work right after 7 years.
They had it worked out pretty well in 07. The 6.4 engine and 6.7 engines that replaced the 6.0 are being labeled these days as "disposable". I'm reading that many more parts are NLA for the 6.4 than for the 6.0 even though it's a newer engine. Kinda like the Toyota 3FE

And it would also make all teachers part time employees. Then we could save all those benefit expenses that currently go to them. Well, except for the college teachers who'd see their workload double given the same curriculum.

I went down the rabbit hole of trying to find a good used early 2000s diesel Ford and it seemed like such crapshoot. You could do all of the "bulletproofing" and it might just eat itself anyway. Sadly, you can have the best teachers in the world, but if the kids dont want to learn, and would rather spend their time being little a-holes, talking about what everyone else is wearing, selling drugs, etc.....its not going to help much. As a culture, we have gotten far too into fluff "society/entertainment" news as being important(keeping up with the lardassians), versus actually having learning and the discovery of learning be a priority. For every one student they profile as having gotten accepted to all ivy league schools, they profile 10 more "student-athletes" on where they signed their scholarship for...an ever increasing percentage of those "student-athletes" are one and done, and if they are lucky, onto the pros.
Lots of teachers basically have to teach for the end of year test, rather than develop the thoughts and investigatory mindsets in their students. That is teaching around the miscreants that are there only to disrupt class. I went to public schools growing up. I had two older sisters that went to those schools before me. Most of the teachers and staff knew or were friends with my parents. Most lived in our "neighborhood" (within 5-10 miles away max). The teachers and school staff had a vested interest in the kids, not just as students, but as neighbors...My Mom got more than one phone call from a teacher asking if I had done my homework already, because she saw me out fartin around on my bike. They didnt just throw facts at you to regurgitate, they got you to learn the hows and whys, not just the whats. Science was fun to learn, to figure out why things did what they did. The kids that were "problems" were dealt with in ways that kids today would freak out about. Parents had to fill out a spanking permission slip, either to have the principal do it, or they could come down and do it themselves in front of the administrator. Being smart was cool up until middle school. Our neighborhood was rezoned into a much more "desegregated" area, where they were force busing kids to even out the demographics. The school I was being sent to didnt have a gifted program, so, myself, and 6 other kids got sent to the school we were originally zoned for. It was truly a fork in the road. Kids i grew up with and were inseparable with in elementary school became totally different. I'm sure the 7 of us changed in our own ways. By the time we all reconverged at our high school, we were geeks, they were putzes, and it was a cluster...
Kids truly are products of their environments, and we arent really doing much to foster environments of self responsibility, mental growth, respect, and learning.

Colleges are as bad if not worse - they will make someone a part time adjunct and keep it that way forever, all the while passing off the adjunct as a full time professor to both the students and parents.......And the adjunct pay is horrible, no benefits, etc...
