Hi,
I'm rebuilding my 1984 pickup, most of the parts are removed, remaining only the frame with the diffs and when i had to remove the torque rod, i had to cut the bolt, because it was seized. Some friends told me that i could leave it like this, without the torqe rod, it will help to get better flex. What do you thing about that? Should i put back the torque rod or not? Is it safe without it?
I would like to have your feedback on this,

The torque rod is there to reduce bump steer with the push-pull steering. If you are keeping the stock steering, you'll be surprised at the poor unstable steering without it.
 
Splitting hairs, but I thought it was to reduce torque steer when under braking, and (in 4wd) acceleration... Wouldn't the sway bar do more for the bump steer?

That said, if you are going to leave the stoke steering, I would leave the bar in there... Cross over steering, it can be ditched...

I used the term "bump steer" generically, yes it also effects braking. I remember trying my '84 without it once, it was darned scary. Hit the brakes the the truck would dive towards the ditch.

The bushings used to be available from Toyota. Not so sure now. Too bad. I had a pair sitting around, but I finally got rid of them. I might have a torque rod in my recycle pile.
