Where'd you find the US flag decals?
Dan, PM sent if you want to check out my Gobi.
@TomasAllan this is an incredible build. You've been holding out on us, this is a ton of sweet goodness all at once - I can't digest without a Basil Hayden.
Wow! This looks awesome. So much going on here that almost anyone could find something here that they could consider for their own truck. For me I am interested in the Gobi rack, the air compressor (though I have a VIAIR portable that is doing what I need at the moment) and the sliders (though if you had challenges with your 2015, I expect I would have at least those and maybe more with my 2016.)
Let me start my questions with the Gobi rack. I currently have a Yakima Load Warrior (with the extension) sitting on the factory cross bars. I have it on the truck about 6 months out of the year but would consider leaving it on full time if the profile is low enough. 90% of the time all I have on the rack is a pair of MaxTrax and a shovel. When we're camping (with a trailer) I will put a couple camp chairs and some other low profile gear. I have Pelican-like boxes I could use but rarely need them. I do really like having a ladder. (I had a ladder on my Land Rover LR4.) I don't live too far from the Gobi office in Aurora, CO so I could definitely go check them out. Questions:
- Will the Gobi rack likely be more or less noise than my Yakima setup (which does have a wind fairing)
- I've had experience with a couple of these, either my own or friends, I can tell you I never had noise issues with mine but again I am so freaking anal with everything I do that at first install I ensure the fairing is mounted perfectly center and at the right angles..... Some friends experienced noise and I fixed those for them much the same way.
- Will the Gobi be higher or lower than my Yakima setup? (And to the point, any thought on the Ranger vs the Stealth Gobi rack?)
- No experience with the Yakima but if I was a betting man I would say lower..... we could measure and compare... not tonight though, I am BEAT.
- Does the Gobi rack impede the view from and use of the sun roof? (We do like the sun room.)
- Not at all, that space is left open and you can buy (extra $$) the basket/cover for it.
- Can the rack carry the weight of a 190 lbs person should I need to get up on top for some reason.
- I am ahem.... 240 ahem...... and I get up there all the time.
- How does the surface/power coating hold up? When I sold my LR4, I noticed a bit of rust beginning to appear at a couple of the welds on the ladder. (It was an OEM Land Rover ladder.)
- So far (knock on wood) I haven't had a problem.
- What about attach points? I find the steel tubing diameter and the arrangement of that tubing on the rack can make it a bit awkward to use straps that have "hooks".
- Haven't had an issue, I have a net I bought on amazon and it works, though as far as the cross bars go its a tight squeeze but hey it still works. I used them today as a matter of fact holding all my camping chairs x4, the alcove, camp table, etc.
- If you do lighting on the rack, who would do the install? (I am not a DIY person.) Maybe with the Slee folks? I really like the idea of having switches in the console. And on that point, where can I pick up a flux capacitor? Do I need a time machine?
- Haha good eye, I got a secret stash somewhere...... dude I just saw that one and my childish side of the brain said "why not?", just a conversation starter, I might use that one for the light I am planning to install under the awning (right on one of the rack's mounts), planning on using the same rigid I used on the rear hatch..... bright and useful when sitting under there at night or cooking/prepping.
- Did the install myself with my friend Steven who owns Atlanta Mobile Lube, we are super detail oriented and OCD when doing these things and I think it came up pretty decent (pads himself on back), not sure if Slee would do these but why not..... ask him. @sleeoffroad
- One thing though, WHOEVER does this install DO NOT LET THEM open a hole through the roof or anywhere on your car, I think is too lazy and unnecessary, I've done this and other vehicles and never had to drill through anything "YET"....
Thanks
Looks great! I know we talked about getting the Atlanta guys together for some watering hole time... still need to do that!
That's 25mm wider than stock 18's which are 60.
Where was that trail photo taken?
