I don't really see how the heads on say a Safari would be any better at eliminating water from the air. I know they have slots in the base, well call me cynical but they just seem more to do with clamping the head on than water dispersion but some bright marketing spark came up with the idea of saying they get rid of water (like I said, maybe I'm just too cynical ;p). I never saw water coming out those slots on the Safari on my 80 in 8 years and we do get some rain in the UK

No one said there was going to be a group buy on this. I was just asking the forum if anyone wanted to look into it. I didn't even start this thread. The mods pulled it from the actual Safari GB thread b/c it was causing that thread to fork. I am surprised to see this much interest though.

I felt bad to have hijacked the Safari snorkel GB thread so I asked the mods to create and separate.

I didn't have the patience to wait or coral a group buy You're probably looking at maybe a $20-$30 savings on this item and not that $20-$30 doesn't mean something to me...it just wasn't worth the time.

$325 and free shipping per one of the above post is a pretty darn good deal IMO.

Per Michael: The antenna and motor need to be removed to install the TJM Airtec snorkel. However, per Michael's experience with installing the same snorkel on his LX470, he discovered a second antenna in the PS rear wing window (I've noticed it but never paid much attention to why it was there).

I always thought it was part of defroster to help you see through that window on frosty mornings...mine doesnt work but if it is an antenna wire instead that explains it. Funny this is very first time I have ever read or heard this....anyone else found this to be true or is Spressoman unique in his find?

yeah the whole idea is the rain hits back side of head and neck and runs out holes instead of being sucked into airstream going down center of tube....if it did not work I doubt it would be used as the low profile design is not unique to TJM...I think Rover has one as well....plus if you buy the removable head you can always buy one of the round sand storm pre-filters that reduce air induction but stop others stuff if driving in sand storms.

Thanks. Was wondering how this thread started, but this mo beta! I agree on the group buy too, ends up being a lot of work for $20. I actually don't know what I'm paying for mine, didn't even ask will find out when I pick it up next week I'm sure it's comparable.

Ben at Slee mentioned a similar deal with the rear window antenna, wasn't sure if it will work but I will find out... I suspect best case is reception is similar to how it is when the power antenna is all the way down, which is ok but not great, depending on location. I am thinking of a "soft" antenna that is tied to the snorkel... like a piece of twin lead of something. If I could restore 80 percent performance in a more stealth mode, I'd be super happy.

I thought about buying a generic stubby flexible antennae and mounting it on fender after installing the TJM....or one of those that mounts on inside of windshield up high with built in amplifier from Crutchfield...

Michael, the TJM USA importer, told me a couple days ago they had them in stock. So unless he exhausted his inventory of same I would assume they'd drop ship for an authorized dealer. I just checked the UPS tracking # for mine, from Carl, and its scheduled for delivery to me today...

I use one of those already cus my stock one broke long ago...and I think it actually gets better reception..
