Hi all-
I am getting quoted $1,500 for timing belt/water pump/coolant flush.
$2,100 with the following:
Timing belt idlers
Idler pulleys
Tensioner
Thermostat
Crank Seal
Fan pulley bracket

Prices include a 3 years/36K mile warranty. All Toyota OEM parts at indy shop.

Anything else need to be replaced while they are in there that I missed? Are the prices fair for the services?

Thanks

Hoses and serpentine belt should be included... Aisin Kit # TKT021 is the one you should compare your Indy pricing and components with. My shop uses this one most frquently. I do not believe there is a significant advantage to using TOYOTA branded parts. In the 3 1/2 years I have been doing these, we have never had an issue...

Add heater T's too if they haven't been done yet.

I’ve been working to line this up on mine as well. There’s quite a few threads on here about all the parts and tools you’ll need for DIY, or when using a shop.

If using a shop, I might just ask for the TB, thermostat, and fan bracket and do the rest myself.

In Denver I’m getting quotes from roughly $1.1k-$2.8k.

Is this a Toyota Dealer price?

Do you see leaking from the water pump, or squeaky sound from the belts/pulleys?

If there's nothing wrong there's no need to replace it as your engine is young at 30~K miles.

A lot of us on ih8mud are super crazy on proactive maintenance, to the point it's excessive.

172K miles. 10 years and about 40K miles since last tb/water pump service. No leaking or funny noises going on.

I would wait until you hit 200K miles and then do it.

If you're really concerned, and you know that the serp belt was replaced at same time as timing belt, you can take the serpentine belt off and check the belt condition, is it cracked on the groove side? If it's not then I would leave it.

You can take that belt off pretty easily without much work. Take the air intake plastic pipe thing off with a few screws/bolts. Loosen the serp tensioner, and pull the belt off. Then check and put the belt back on and put the air intake back on.

Curious who you are talking to. I'm in the same boat and got prices for ~$3,200, ~$3,500, and $2,750 for the whole replacement (timing belt, thermostat, water pump, etc.).

Opting to wait until 200K.

You guys really think waiting until 200K miles is worth the risk? I drive the rig about 4000-5000 miles year, putting me at 200k in another 5-6 years or about 16 years since the last tb job.

FWIW I'm getting my TB and WP along with pulleys and bracket done tomorrow for $1700 by a Toyota dealership in my area. I have 215k on my LC and while it's been 68k miles since it was last done (instead of the recommended 90k) it's also been 13 years. I'm getting ready for a couple road trips and having this work done will give me piece of mind. It's expensive, but cheaper than a new engine.

I have 320k miles on my 2000 timing belt, water pump, etc. I bought another LX with the money saved not doing unnecessary work. But I will not do that on my 2006 VVTI

For real? I have a 2000 LX with about 115K on it, bought 7 months ago, some service history, and debating timing belt. Talked to service shop that had maintained it before I bought it - they advised wait til you see some temp issues then replace. They kinda think we overdo it with maintenance.

For real.

I think a lot of people overdue maintenance and spend money that is not “necessary”. My same 2000 LX also has 440k miles on all original AHC parts and used every day.

And none of the success is due to maintenance. I’m chalking it up to…. drive it and let it work but mostly divine intervention.
