Luckily thats not a high-pressure seal; i’d use some 600wet/dry with a little oil to help smooth it out- and if its too deep to smooth the gouge edges down, maybe fill and fill void with some fipg- wipe away excess.

-This type of seal puller works well- no damage

What did you use to polish out that scratch on the crank? I’ve been using the wood screw method for a decade without issue, then nicked the end of a camshaft this morning when pulling out the cam seal 🤦🏻‍♂️ Probably should’ve drank more coffee before starting...or spiked it with whiskey...
What @abuck99 said, strip of fine emery cloth.

I am getting ready to do this job later this week. How much oil will I lose by removing the oil filter? I just changed the oil a few hundred miles ago. So I am not looking to drain it completely. I can't really tell where the oil level in the pan is compared to the filter location.

Like a half a quart or less, about the same volume as the size of your oil filter.

Okay cool. I guess the filter is above the level in the pan. I'll let it cool off overnight so most can drain back to the pan.

What is a normal and/or acceptable amount of noise for fan bracket bearing? Mine spins freer than I would expect and almost has a little bit of a rattle to it.

It's a 150k to 200k mile part. Yours looks well used. A new Aisin on RockAuto is $105 + shipping. If it fails later you're probably looking at 3 or 4 hours to replace it. You make the call.

Based on what? The sound? It doesn't have any wobble/play.
Sounds like no grease left inside the bearing. Should also have some resistance, not be free-spinning that easily.

How often do the oil pumps on these leak? I swapped the crank seal but the oil seems to go up pretty high like it is may be leaking down in as well.

As one mudder here suggested me to check the base of the dipstick tube, I realized that too was weeping oil so I went ahead replaced it.

I checked about 100x that both cam seals are dry and yes they are so I did not replace those.

Anyone have the equivalent AISIN part number for the two different types of FIPG? The OTRAMM videos said there's a special one needed for the pink coolant. The stuff I bought is AISIN AB1207B.

He was referring to the OEM (Toyota brand) thats around $70. The AISIN AB1207B works perfect.

Thanks for the write up! i just finished this job, and this thread made it very easy.

otramm’s youtube channel is another very helpful tool for others considering this job.

Hi All!

I'm doing this job for the second time on my 4runner. I have a question about the crank seal. I ordered online from Conicelli toyota parts. I got the seal and it says Made in USA with 2 part numbers stamped on it 90311-A0001 and UH5108E and its darker than the OE seal in the engine.

With all these knock off parts floating out there I have my reservations about putting this in. Can anyone confirm if this is as good as factory or should I be looking for an OE seal that is the same color?

Thanks!
