I still do not see a cup holder. ;)

there are sure to be bugs post roll

Check the pan hard mounts closely at axle and frame.

and hunt for an fj40/45 cab to pop on there or a nice 80 body or something else....

@joekatana has a very interesting double cab 70 and modified 80 frame to accompany, extended and modified for the 70/80 marriage......and it's cheap.

I've a 70 body that's prime for chopping and cabbing.....

When are we getting some updates on your project?

When it's done or, at least, well underway.

Describing as 'morphed' is the understatement of all
build-kind and with that, a sense of chaotic uncertainty I've grown addicted to, like crack.

It took two years of being brow beat, desperately hanging onto idealism, with a self imposed mandate that, at the very least, the 80 frame HAD to be utilized.

My mind has been changed.

I can see clearly now that 80 idealism is gone.

I can see all the obstacles posed by her frame.

Gone is the 80 rock donkey love that had me blind.

It's gonna be an uber.... (uber)
Uber..... (uber)
expensive frame....

Genius posting.

always like the UTE ideas for 40s through 80s.

Wagons are wagons and, apart from the oddball 55, if it ain't gotta 5, a full ass it should remain.

Have seen very creative, very professional 85s, but none look right. Best I could envision was cutting a Tundra extra cab at the B pillar, splitting it to narrow to 80 width (keeping C pillars, rear bulkhead, side glass) and using a Tacoma rear window.

All that, before getting into the wagon rear axle placement on the 80, that needs to move aft to look and function properly, kinda led me to the path of lesser resistance .

Got a link on here?

Ain't gotta link at all, as it's only utterances have been within a closeknit few likeminded junkies that STILL say 'you're nucking futs!' (as if that's news to me).

So far, the only other that have agreed it's a good idea is the guy building the critical portions......which would serve as warning to most.

To me, it's like a sign reading 'jump right in, the waters fine...' at the edge of the proverbial rabbit hole......where I said:

'$()) it. Give me the top hat.'

Crap, I am going to have to buy a new popcorn machine to keep stuffing my face with, while I am watching all these awesome build threads that are popping up.

Idiot savant, at best.

Yea... you are right on the edge o_O You're posts are exhausting to read but always have great input even if you think my idea is stupiD!!!! And a little :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly: (which it is...)

I'm excited to see where your build heads. I always love watching the "no expense spared" builds that guys like you do. It really puts my "all expenses spared" build style into perspective!

I've gotta disagree. I think cut down SUVs look awesome if done right.

The rear axle does become an issue (especially when adding a tray or bed), but since I'm leaving the 80 rear in place I think it will still look proportional. But hey, that's my opinion.

I think an fj45 creation would be the sweetest.

I needed a break from straightening the windshield. It's tedious and boring.

I swapped in some stock rear coils.

And swapped the ARB onto my green one. Not sure if I like it. I may just sell it to fund other goodies.

I then continued to pull out wiring and generally clean things up a bit. Tonight will be the night where I (hopefully) get the windshield in.

Does anyone know if it is possible to glue the 80 windshield in using tons of Urethane rather than the seal? I know this probably isn't the forum to ask this question on... I may post it over in the hardcore section. Or, dare I say, Pirate.

The windshield is an integral part of the 80s A-A pillar structural integrity, but I question the seals ability and the seal maintains glazing firmly in opening, taking up the gap between the frame and glass.

I don't know if there'd be enough glass overhanging the sheet metal to glue in, but if there were, may consider a Tremco-Vulkem 116 or similar.

But, a good question to pose in the hardcore section of PBB....

Exhausting to read, eh? :flipoff2:

wudit hep if i paid no 'tention to the basic tenets of the D'English language mispelling wurds not use periods comas disregarding any composition structure and running on into oblivion like a common 'hood rat wile I have to agree that i may take the long way 'round, kinda like a verbal expedition, it's not exhausting. sum times it's necessary to develop a thought process disregarding prosaic form and dig deep in the sole for inspiration then verbally convey like a melodramatic song

@Delancy, you are a genius. That sounded like a bunch of crud, but I see how you wrote it in iambic pentameter. Very nice. Brilliant and proof that your crap has no odor what-so-ever.

I plan to cage the "cockpit" so I'm not terribly worried about structural integrity as long as the windshield stays in and doesn't crack while I'm driving down the road. We'll see what the fellas in the Hardcore section say.

And no it wouldn't be better if you rambled on like so many do on forums I just don't bother to read those but yours are written so precisely that i have to work my way through every gritty detail until i reach the end and then go back through to make sure i understood what i read and got the takeaway message kind of like reading shakespere its a work of art but that doesnt mean its easy to sort through for the average joe also nice catch with the iambic pentameter 2fpower i dont think i have thought about that since highschool :flipoff2:

Just curious, any idea what the distance from the axle to the outer bumpstop after the stock coil swap? I'm building a hybrid and wondering about where things are going to sit with a really light back end.....

@Mieser I'll measure tonight. I can probably do a quick guesstimate for you based on my other 80. One seond...

*Edit - Outter bumpstops probably sit at about 7 inches from the top of the axle housing. I can measure tonight for you but I'm sure that is pretty close. It will also probably settle a little bit.

And this was with stock FJ80 coils? Not LX450 units or anything?
I'd love a quick measurement to confirm.
I am basically trying to think how mine might compare for rear weight.....

I don't know what the coils came out of, but they are definitely stock. Got them out of a buddies parts pile. I'll measure tonight when I'm at the shop.

This looks like a fun project! I'll be following along.

What the heck is an iambic pentameter? :hmm:

High brow s***. Us common folk need not worry with it.
