Ok ignition stuff sorted, now have to figure out my fuel delivery problem.

FYI the Black/White wire you may have seen, that was originally connected to + on the coil, is the ballast resistor bypass wire. It connected on one end to the starter, and when the starter was engaged, it provided FULL +12V to the coil to aid in starting. When the starter disengages, that FULL +12V voltage goes away, and the voltage to the + on the coil is then supplied by the Yazaki resistor wire. In order for this to work you must have the starter installed that has the bypass terminal on it.

I believe it does Mark. Could post up a pic. One slide on clip connection that is yellow/black wire then another connection with a skinny black and white wire.

Wondering is @65swb45 Mark may have an idea why fuel is running out of my carb, and where it is going. No fuel noted in my oil and I guess that is a good thing.

Maybe @FJ40Jim can give me some insight. Even after I get her to start using gumout she idles great and responds well to throttle, but turn her off and does not want to re-start. Can see sight glass is right in the middle but tends to be empty like 20 minutes later. But have not timed it. Won't start when warm right after running even when I can see the gas in sight window. Must be leaking out quick. Ideas?

After the sight glass goes empty open the butterflies and look down into the intake manifold with a flashlight, chances are you will see a puddle of fuel sitting on the bottom of the intake manifold. I can't recall why this happens, shaft play perhaps? My carb does it after it sits for a day or two and I know it has some shaft play.

If @FJ40Jim and @65swb45 told everyone how to fix their carburetors and what to look for, they would not be in business. Sorry bud but I don't think they will respond.

@65swb45 I read that thread and especially liked that last comment. Mine was rebuilt and flow tested less than three years ago and still looks like new. Jim did an awesome job. Need to open up the throat and use flashlight to see what is down there.

When she is cold and sight window is empty, cranking does not seem to fill her up. But if I use go juice she starts and as running that sight window is at her usual halfway mark. Turn her off and she won't restart and then sight window will drain and it seems fairly quickly.

Possible, have ran down the battery cranking. I have heard it is a bad idea to crank my style of starter for more than fifteen seconds though. Is that true with original style starters?

Too much going on, looking like she will be down for a while. Turn around on my carb will probably be quite a while. Need to buy a better charger, guess my timing is good!

Ok so sight window empty. I opened up throttle to look down throats and could only see residue at bottom of intake manifold, no puddle. So I work the throttle linkage a couple time and it squirts out a stream. Go in the truck pull in full choke and she starts with sight window empty! No go juice at all! The sight window immediately rises to its halfway position. I let her run for like ten minutes and shut her down. At 1 hour 45 minutes later the sight window is empty. In the meantime I open throttle now and then to try and see if fuel is running down side but not evident. At 1 hour 45 minutes I see droplets of fuel at bottom of intake. No puddle as such. Opinions?

Ok so with the insight of @FJ40Jim I have the carb issue somewhat resolved and she is running excellent as well. With our high heat and elevation as well this summer fuel was vaporizing out of sight window. So this past Saturday I met up with @JackA and his crew in Sedona to cruise some Red Rock. Rode shotgun in his
FJ45LV to learn the lines on Broken Arrow. Then wheeled my '78 with his crew on Van Deren cabin and Greasy Spoon/Pipeline trail to end up camping out with views of the Red Rocks off FR525. Good times!

So I refurbished my jack, rods and handle quite a while ago. Finally got around to putting them into the ‘78. Upper radiator hose blew off when warming her up today, clamp was not tight enough. I was afraid to over tighten the OEM Toyota clamp. Lesson learned. Took her out for a drive after- no issues. But what a mess under the hood.

I also picked up a OEM rear step. To mount it should it go under bumperette and right to frame or above bumperette? I am thinking under then spacers on eithe side so bumper does not look cocked. How were they supposed to be mounted?

Anyone on this rear step?
