I have no idea how tough it really is...I (and the wife) have no clue what we'd do if something similar happened to Missy. I imagine though as tough as it would be, we'd have to find another lab...can't live without that loyal shadow :).

I will Jon. I'm actually thinking about getting a pair.

But first i need a better place to raise them. That is first on the agenda right now. That's most of the reason i have been out of the loop lately with the cruiser.

Name: Mabe's Swiss Miss - aka Missy, Brown, Rattish, T-slug, etc, etc
Breed: Chocolate Lab
Age: 6 years old
Favorite Activity: Sleeping, eating, drooling and chasing her boyfriend 'Wilson' (aka tennis ball)...sorry Brodi :crybaby:
History: Got her from a college friend that owned her mother. Actually was there to see the pups being born...freakin gross !!

Lost a best friend earlier today...can't imagine how parents whose lose a child handle it.

Woke up and started our routine just like every other morning for the past 12.5 years. Out of nowhere while I was in the other room putting on shoes I heard a what sounded like her slamming into the side of the bed. Not sure if she had a seizure or hit her head while thrashing on the floor but she proceeded to pass right there in my lap. Felt like forever but was less than a couple of minutes.

She went out like she lived, crazy and random. Such a kind soul - RIP Mabe's Swiss Miss aka Missy.

Jon, So sorry to hear about Missy. Will be thinking about you and Stephanie. Sending best wishes your way.

Sorry to hear this, Jonathan...

Miss Maple
The vet and shelter both said she was a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix
Likes to sleep, eat and ride but not very fond of the 40.
Born 4/1/10 and I got her from the Guilford County Shelter at 3 1/2 months old.
Before I closed my business she was a constant companion in the shop and was the first to greet people as they entered. Once ran a State Trooper out of the front door.
Had knee surgery in May '16 and is still facing hip replacement when I can raise the necessary $'s.
Great dog, full of energy and loves everyone.

S4Cruiser Sorry about the loss. After going through the loss of two Labs, one on Father's Day, I can feel your pain. Funny how dogs can become such a part of life and fill voids you never thought were there.

This is Max
Mixed breed, yellow lab and?
Older than dirt, we're thinking about 14

Max came with the house 6 years ago when we bought it. He would not come within 5 feet of us and my neighbor was feeding him. He slowly came around and interacted with our 3 dogs. He's sleeping at my feet :)

This is Sam
He is a Jack Russel/ Corgi mix
He is a year some time this month

This dog is everything you've ever heard about Jack Russels, non stop. I think the Corgi in him is the part that actually listens.

Miss Bristol
Blood Hound/Shepard
She is 6
Bristol was 8 months old and living in a 12' X 12' horse stall for several months when we rescued her. She was rail thin and had hair falling out all over and very shy. Heather figured out her food issues and pretty soon she had a coat on her that is beautiful. She used to be pretty quiet until Sam showed up, I think he woke up the puppy in her.

Terrible news Jon. Even 12+ years is way too short, our dogs' biggest fault.

This is our dog, Zeke.
Breed: Great Dane, Brindle color
Age: 2
Weight: 133 lbs.
His interests include:
Moving giant logs from the woodpile, dropping them on our deck in the middle of the night scaring the hell out of us in the process.
Slobbering profusely
Leaning against you
Attempting to sit in your lap...even if you are standing up

Zeke is my 3rd Great Dane. He's a big baby and an all-around great dog. He's good with the kids. Danes are heart-breakers as their life expectancy is only about eight years. My last Dane made it to eleven. Zeke lives it up in a heated and air conditioned garage and he has the run of our property.

I may have a saddle in my garage that would fit Zeke perfectly! Love the Brindle coloring....we had a Brindle Boxer for 8 years.

Sorry to hear the news, S4Cruiser. After losing our last two pups, one year after the other, it took me a long time to get over the losses. We recently just got back into the game after a long break and it is funny how a new one brings up so many great, old memories of past companions.

Here's our GSMD "Floyd" at 9 weeks with our little guy:

Jon, so terribly sorry to hear about Missy, my thoughts are with you and Stephanie. Cherish the memories! Run free and rest easy, Missy. :(

S4Cruiser, also sorry to hear about your loss.....I appreciate you resurrecting this thread and sharing. Our family is expecting to be sharing your grief in the near future with.....

Bob....yes, I have a dog named Bob....I got to pick out the name since we were getting what i considered to not be a very "manly" dog, option #2 was Q-tip!
Bichon Frise
will be 16 years in Nov.
Bob is unlike any other Bichon we have encountered....laid back, not yappy or high strung. Will let the kids do anything to him as you can see below. We have had friends and family get a Bichon after encountering Bob only to be woefully disappointed and in some cases, give the dog away! He is my wingman when i am home....moves from room to room with me and lays down. Sleeps about 22 hours a day. Highpoint of the day is about 5:30 pm when he knows that it's time for his "Bob ball" which is either a concoction of leftovers my wife has frozen into balls (hence the name) for thawing or most likely a container of froofy Cesar wet food!
Anybody recognize the "critter" on Bob? We were amazed that he let it crawl around his back! We got Bob when our youngest daughter was 1 and she just turned 17.....it's the only dog she's known. We previously had a boxer and a Weimaraner.

Daisy the Dog and Bear the Dog. Daisy is a mix with Great Pyrenees, Bear is full blooded. Always together like partners in crime, great watch dogs and very kid friendly and patient.
They are big, don't know how much they weigh, Bear's standing mouth height is table top level, perfect for grabbing hotdogs.
Very brave dogs, but when scared by thunder or redneckpyrotechnofxxxery, they run for their Mama...
