those of you with Turbos, did you notice any difference in performance upgrading your Airbox? i'm on the stock 1HD one now, thinking about going the PDI route.

also saw Gturbo just came out with one but it uses a 79 series filter vs the PDI which uses a 200 series filter which is a little bigger

ended up answering my own question here after pulling the trigger on a PDI Airbox (def the most expensive intake i've ever purchased)

but WOW what a difference on the G-Turbo green wheel, turbo spool up is so much faster along with throttle response and overall power. also eliminated most of the smoke i was seeing. fitment was a little tricky as its right up against the battery box and some of the battery cables. be sure to have them include the 79 series OEM rubber water drain, as its not included and unavailable in the US. also there is no mounting point on the airbox for the factory turbo pressure sensor bracket, but if you flip the bracket/assembly upside down you can use the inner most mounting bolt from the airbox.

The pipe between the airbox and the turbo inlet. I cut the flange off so you can slip the silicon elbow over the airbox outlet, and had a custom S-pipe welded up by a buddy.

I know this is an old post, but how did you go with bonnet clearance. Just put my FZ lid on my HD airbox and its hitting my bonnet causing it to not close properly. Did you have this issue?

No issues with hood clearance on mine, I had to extend the airbox lid stud though so the wingnut could clamp the lid down.

Anybody using the GTurbo airbox? Uses a 70 series filter so I figured it might be more compact/easier to fit than the PDI one.

$1500?
IMO these psnel filter style airboxes have become super generic. Surely there's options for a lot less dollars?

The PDI one looks a lot nicer too.

I picked up the Duramax airbox (discussed above) and tubing in great shape for $130 CAD. Going to see about fitment this weekend, backup is PDI.

Andrew :)

Hope thats Aussie dollars but I agree, GTurbo pricing doesn't seem very competitive considering there are more airbox options available for an 80 series than for most sports cars :) A few reasons for why I find it interesting:

- Smaller therefore possibly better/easier fitment than PDI (not sitting tightly against battery box or intercooler piping)
- Might not require to remove or relocate factory power outlet box behind battery
- Likely easier to install snorkel and access intake connection due to design
- Toyota panel filter similar to PDI (better availability than GM in most parts of the world, also more convenient)
- Bolts all around the lid likely provide better sealing than latches

Mostly speculating here since there's very limited information available right now
