The 'rebuilt brakes' will need to be done too @cruisermatt.....no shocks there. I think I'll just have you do the wheel bearings, brakes, calipers, pipes and hoses all at once with the H55 and tie rod ends. I might as well have you do all of it at once since you'll have the truck and my wife will lose her mind if I do another 'project vehicle' myself. I would love to put 60 series axles under it like I did with my LX, but given how badly I overpaid for this rig I have to stop somewhere...... hopefully I'll have the hand brake sorted before it gets to you.
The 2.5° shims are in, so we'll see whether that helps the tracking. I will have to add new springs to my growing list: these are obviously made from an amalgamation of springs from other rigs and they have about 2" of flex using my trolley jack.... that may be my final upgrade before she's done.
By the way, the white stuff you see is not road salt, it's coolant. That's why I can't drive it until CityRacer/UPS gets my bloody hoses here.
I've always put OMEs on my 40s but I hear the Terrain Tamer springs are better. I know that OMEs really went downhill when they stopped manufacturing them in Australia. Interesting note: I bought the OMEs on my LX at ARB in Adelaide. They told me when I bought them that they were the last set of 40 series Aussie-made springs left in Australia. I took them home in the back of my 2003 Diesel Hilux, put them on my 40 in the garage in a day and the 40 rode better than my Hilux from that day on. Any thoughts or preferences?

I have to look in to the size. The rears look like the same as 40 series (definitely not 45/47 size) but I'll need to measure a 40 to be certain. Do the Terrain Tamer springs need shims or are they designed well enough not to need them?

Ok, the rear brake shoes were a good 1/4" from the drum, which I've adjusted out. But it appears that the adjusting rods are installed backwards, because when the handbrake is applied, the adjusting arm seems to loosen the threaded rod rather than tightening it. Can you tell whether these are correct @cruisermatt ? It seems I may need to swap them left to right.

The rear wheel well seam was 'sealed' with black silicon. So I'll be scraping that all out, spraying Extend rust converter in there, sealing it with 3M seam sealer and then raptor lining it.

Kudos to CityRacer. I got an email today that they are next day air sending the replacement package after UPS lost the original. The insurance won't cover the loss until the 20th, but they are replacing it before then to make up for the UPS stuffup.
Hopfuly it'll get here tomorrow. I've got another 4 day trip Thursday, but if the package is here, I can hit the ground running when I get back.

Wow , this is an adventure in irony. In the year + that I know you're excited and searching for the right 43, you of all enthusiasts wind up here. Every roll of the dice is a 2, 3 or 12…..Almost impossible odds.
Ambivalent about that blue 43 for certain the other day and I guess I know why. Routing for a home run next for you

I may have actually come up snake eyes with mine. BUT, I've got a paint brush, so I'm trying to make it look like 6s.
My grandmother used to say "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken poo", but you can make pretty good fertiliser. So I'm seeing what grows. Luckily I've got @cruisermatt a couple hours away to help with the gardening.

43’s use the same rear springs as 45/47.
We install steel 4-degree shims on all the lifts we do. I even manufacture my own brand of shims now since we needed them so often.

Wow. Hat's off to CityRacer: package just rocked up this morning. This means I can get a few things done before going on my trip!
@cruisermatt yes, I guess they do look longer now that I have the rear wheel off.
I may have to wait a few months on the suspension, but we will do all the rest when the Hilux sells. If it sells well.... then maybe I just do it all together.

Got a lot done today while the kids were in school: all dirty.
I cleaned up and lubricated the rear brakes and the hand brake now works. I spent about 3 hours scraping the bloody silicon from the underside of the 43: they applied it to bare metal before painting it. Of course, silicon CAUSES rust in metal..... but never mind.
If it costs there was what it costs here then they likely spent more on silicon than on labour: there had to be 5 tubes under there.
After getting it all out, I wire brushed it, scrubbed it with a brillo soaked in isopropyl alcohol and then sprayed Extend into the seams. After that dried, i filled all the seams with 3M urethane seam sealer. When I get back I'll paint the whole underside to seal it a bit better. I'll raptor line it when I do the inside of the tub.
While under there, I removed the cover over the filler and found (I hope) the cause of the fuel smell: the breather hose was only attached to the filler, but was too short to go over the tube on the tank, so they simply butted it up against it.
I also painted the inside of the frame rails for good measure.
I didn't get to any of the new toys from CityRacer, but all-and-all, a fulfilling day.

My OCD at work: Project Goldilocks isn't even drivable yet, but I get home from a trip and could not resist removing the awful Chinese pedal pads and putting on the sexy-as-hell factory Toyota pads I got.
When I raptor line the tub I will pull out the pedal tree and rebuild it with new bushings and fresh black epoxy paint.
I found a brand new factory wiring harness on Ebay for my 43. It's nearly $1000, so I can't justify it yet.... but that'll solve a lot of issues. Has anyone here used these?

Doh! Sorry, I forgot I had that link.
Yes, that I don't doubt. The fuse cover alone would drive me a little crazy. But it has to be better than my current wiring done by One-Armed Lefty. Just having all the plugs seems worth that.
I would do a Painless harness, but I don't know how close to factory the Paki harness I've got is (I doubt it's even remotely close) and it doesn't have all the plugs.
The Painless harness I did for my Scrambler was fantastic: all the plugs, etc. But sadly they don't make a 40 series equivalent.
Last day for the listing for my Hilux. Hoping for a rally in the 'last 2 minutes'. Tomorrow we'll start planning the work on the 43 @cruisermatt!

Well, certainly could have done better on the Hilux. Lost a good chunk of change on that one. Seems to be my MO these days.
Now to focus on the 43. Spent the day finishing the paint and seam sealing on the underside and running new fuel lines; the ones on there were mostly original rubber lines (hard as plastic) with bent brake lines to fill the gaps: some with hose clamps, some not. I'll finish the fuel lines tomorrow and maybe start on the radiator hoses.
Now to focus on the 43. Your pickup is/was amazing, sorry you didn't get more for it. In the mid-90s while going through undergrad, I was doing everything in my power to get my hands on an '89-'94 SR5, extended cab, 5spd pickup. Ended up with a 4Runner which was pretty sweet, but still feel like I missed out on the pickup.
The 43 seems to be coming along, it's going to be amazing once you get the details sorted out.

Thanks for the kind words. It's all timing. The day before a '91 DX which spent its life in the salty northeast and had the rust to prove it sold for $24000. It just takes a couple folks to drive the price up and yesterday wasn't the day.
