@Chamba
Glad to see you guys are close. I don’t know @cruisermatt but I did buy parts for my 40 from him. Always responsive and knowledgeable with intelligent guidance. In fact we had discussed him doing the chassis and driveline work on my FJ45 when I had it but I had decided it wanted more energy and money than I could have provided. It did need a few things. You know as an older guy my opportunities to enjoy the ride or be elbow deep in rebuilding means I had better pick the old guy option.

After 51 years of playing with land cruisers, it was time for me to enjoy the ride. Good luck with your new truck…I will enjoy the vicarious experience

Part number?
What is the specific purpose of these?

I'll get that part number for you guys shortly.
A quick update: lots of good on the new 43, some bad. Rust-wise, she's mostly what I'd hoped: Very nice frame, body nearly perfect. Front doors are perfect, rear doors are good with a bit of work having been done to the right rear door.
I've sorted out several electrical issues but there are a few left to deal with. The wiring harness appears to be from a newer car, perhaps a Hilux. So I'm goining to slowly correct all of that.
The coolant leak is because the wrong lower hose was used and it's far too short. So I've ordered all the hoses and the A/C equipped lower radiator hose union pipe to correct all those issues. The heater was hooked up very poorly and incorrectly, so I'm rectifying that as well.
The low pressure line for the power steering was installed by Rube Goldberg himself and is leaking steadily. So I'm fixing that today.
There was no grease in any of the zerks, so that was an easy fix. A goodly account of play the the steering wheel was mostly sorted adjusting the bell crank and drag link at the steering box.
The rear pinions seal is leaking and there are no washers on any of the plugs on the diffs or gear boxes. So I'll sort all of that when I put synthetic geat oil in all the boxes.
Lots of missing parts: the spring and limiter on the right vent widow are missing. Thus it swings in the breeze. The hardware for the door limiters are missing so I'm be looking for that.
The hand brake is hooked up, but doesn't work a bit. I need to adjust it, and perhaps pull the drums to see why this is. Given how the rest was set up I won't be shocked if it's done incorrectly.
The worst item so far seems to be the transfer case: it doesn't seem to have been put together using any gaskets, just sealant. So it's leaking slowly and steadily.
But to add to the fun, the drain plug was a epoxied closed..... so a rebuild will be forthcoming. This is not something I've got time for right now; though I've rebuilt numerous H55 and split cases in my day.
I thought I would order the Man-a-fre H55/transfer case abs swap them, then sell my core. But I think this may wind up being a job for @cruisermatt
Seeing all this now, I'll be looking at all the hubs to make sure the nuts are properly installed and that there actually gear oil in there and not lard or candle wax.

So I'm still happy with the truck, just not happy with what I thought would be a driving project. Again, the risks of buying sight unseen. Would I still have bought it if I'd seen it first? Yes, I think I would, but I'm not sure I'd have been willing to pay what I did. I still think I got a fair deal. But it's not a great deal, which I originally thought it was. I plan to keep this long-term, so I'm not trying to make a profit here. But I don't want to spend what I would to have the FJ Company build one for me. I've got two kids in private school abs that's the priority right now.
I really didn't want to do a build thread..... but it appears now that I will have to.

A few items to report: the low pressure line on the power steering pump is now replaced with the Rube Goldberg line in the bin. It's filled with synthetic ATF and the pump is nice and quiet.

I thought I had a rear main leak, so I pulled the clutch cover to inspect. Good news is it's not leaking. I discovered that the oil pan was very loose, so I tightened that up: though it's got no sealant even in the corners: just cork so I don't think it's going to stay dry. I have a new Toyota oil pump I've had for years I may throw in after I get a new pan, so a mixed blessing.
One transmission isolator bolt is missing, two were loose and only one was snug. I put anti seize on the three I have and tightened them properly (I'll get another from Cruisermatt). I then cleaned up the clutch cover, painted it, and put it back on.
Another issue has come to light: the teansfer case was about a quart high while the H55 was about a quart low. I'm thinking the seal is shot. A better picture of the bottom of that transfer case with the skid off.....
Interesting Third World note: the transfer case fill plug has been enlarged and replaced with a massive bolt using a hand cut leather gasket.
Ran out of time, so I'll get after it again tomorrow.

My previous H55s all had the 40 series top loader with the 40 series cane.
The position of this one is not good. I don't plan on spending the money for a 40 series top loader (I will keep looking for one each time I'm back in Australia, but not holding my breath), so I'll make this work. I plan to cut the bottom of the shifter, tilt it about 10°-15° towards me and re-weld it. I actually think it's a LHD shift cane. I would love an '81-'84 40 series shift cane, but coming upon those these days is rare. I had several of them years ago but I sold my personal stash of Cruiser goodies.

Know somebody who installed a 60 series H55F in a LHD 77 FJ40. He cut the 60 series shift cane off at the base and welded on a 40 series solid cane. He said he didn't think he didn't like the way the H55F felt compared to the H42. Really wondering if the location and angle of the shift cane was a good part of the reason he didn't like the feel.

I'm OCD as far using a H55F in a LHD 40 series. Have not been able to acquire a LHD shift for a 40 series or 70 series H55F. Because of the 3F style bellhousings the 60 is way to far to the left. Guessing 70 series would be better but not sure if the LHD would be better than the RHD 70 series since both were for the rotated transmission. Not sure straightening the 40 series RHD bend would put in the correct location.

Did the pre 8/80 RHD four speed have the bend in the cane? I have a 84 H41 and 83 H55F RHD shift canes. Those put the shifter in the same location. The first bend is lower on the H55F shift cane to make it equal the the four speed's lower shift tower.

The list of parts I'll be getting from Cruisermatt keeps growing. All the rubber brake lines look to be original. Also a few of the brake pipes will need to be ordered.
I figured out why I couldn't adjust the hand brake: they had spacers which were too small and were binding on the cable. I drilled them out and I was able to adjust the cable. Sadly, it still doesn't catch. Next I'll pull the drums and figure out why. My guess is it's missing something...... Like everything on this rig seems to be: parts were taken off, painted, and sometimes put back on. I've got some work ahead on this 43.
I put a snorkel on the rear axle and found that the nipple was blocked with crud. I'm hoping that's the cause of the pinion seal leaking given it couldn't breath, so it would pressuriseand push fluid out. I drilled out the nipple and put it back on.
I also adjusted the shifter cane: perfect now; though I'd still prefer a 40 series cane @Living in the Past. First and reverse shown. Passenger seat on this rig is fixed and doesn't slide, so it's the equivalent of forward in NAS 40s.. That'll be fixed when I put the Corbeau seats in. The driver seat is all the way back.

If you didn’t order the seats yet, we sell those too! :D

Looks like you have a 3F bellhousing with the stock 8/80 crossmember. Those are angled 7 degree, but your original crossmember is not so that puts the transmission mount and motor mounts into a bind. We’ll want to change that bellhousing to a proper 2F one to correct that angle when transmission is out, that will make the mounts all work and last correctly. I have a few bellhousings on hand.

Of course we have new oil pans, OEM brake hoses, tubes, etc etc all in stock as well 😉

All the comments on BaT about that being a deal and a steal are way off base. And the seller is crooked too...making comments like 'shot through the heart' while writing a dishonest ad. I dislike BaT more and more every day.

33.5k for a third world spit shine AND right hand drive?!

The truck does look the part tho and is in good hands.

Matt is a legend. He's been talking with me in private about what else we are going to do; very knowledgeable.

I didn't realise that about the 3F bell housing, but it makes sense looking at the isolator. Yet another thing I'll correct... the list is growing.

BaT has become a bit of a hot bed for these third world sellers. I always told myself I'd never buy anything on there, just sell on it. But I thought this one ticked so many boxes that I got carried away. If it was what I thought it was, I'd feel I got a decent deal, but given the issues I'm finding, not so much. There were enough red flags that I should have known better. But here I am.

But she's mine now and I'll get her up to speed. Had it looked like this in LHD it probably would have gotten closer to $50,000: and that would have been truly insane.

Wish I would have know you were looking- have a customer that only got $23k for his soft top 43 that was well sorted last fall.

Ok…now I’m looking !!
