Or you can drop in in Lee and Tucker at Kiss n fly or Oil can harrys ( i keed, these are gay bars)

Man, why am I getting dumped on here? From where you are 2nd street is a good option - Congress ($$ but tasty), Taverna, and Lambert's are good. I'd slide over the other way to Max's Wine Dive or Hank's Garage on San Jack, just some interesting stuff I've been enjoying lately. South Congress is always a good option too, Home Slice/Pearla's/SoCo Cafe are excellent ... Guerrero's is what it is but you should definitely try and hit a show at the Continental ;). Brunch should happen at East Side Cafe or Fonda, and the gospel is better at Maria's Taco Express IMO.

That's all I got, I've only lived here few decades though ...

Thank you gentlmen! I appreciate all the great leads you have all posted here. We are going to check some of these out and save the rest for a later date. I am very anal(yea I said it) about drinking and driving and honestly drink very little anymore but would like to enjoy a assortment of home brewed beers that night so I believe the locations within walking distance of our hotel will be the ones we visit most likely. Hope all of you are doing well. Btw any of you Austin gents have a tranny tunnel cover for sale? : )

Hank's that I mentioned is a Belgian gastro pub, they've got Belgian's on tap I've never seen outside of bottles stateside ;). Your best bet otherwise is Gingerman or Fado in walking distance, I don't normally recommend chains though :( If you want to head a bit further Black Sheep Lodge/Reds Porch south or Dog and Duck/Hopfields/Draught House north are good beer destinations.

You mentioned anal and tranny in the same post? Maybe the gospel brunch isn't a good idea after all....

Isn't that what Austin is all about?

Hank's went belly up a couple of weeks ago, scratch that one.

Awesome! I appreciate the leads!

Fado is also a franchise establishment that's exactly the same in Atlanta, D.C., Chicago, and so on.... Meh. :meh:

If you care to brave 6th Street, B.D. Rileys Irish Pub is locally owned and their pub grub is excellent. It's only a block east of Congress.

BD Riley's Irish Pub - Sixth Street District - Austin, TX

When's the last time you were there?

We were there in the fall and it had been at least a few years since I had been there.

The beer selection was lame and the places smelled like piss.

If you really want to experience Austin, then stay away from 6th Street as it is basically for tourists.

Tucker has some solid suggestions. You can also check out the campus area haunts that are always consistent (Trudy's, Crown & Anchor, Spiderhouse, and now you can add Hopfields to that list).

Last time at BD Reilly's was probably a month ago for lunch. Smelled fine and the food was good, but that was during the day. I only mention it because as Irish pubs go, it's more authentic than Fado, albeit not squeaky clean. If you've traveled in Ireland that's what most real pubs are like, old and dingy.

Evenings, all of 6th Street east of Congress smells like piss and I agree, avoid it at all costs. If I was downtown and wanted a beer, I'd head straight for Gingerman.

I included Hopfields and Trudy's on a separate list that was em'd to Sully. Didn't include Crown and Anchor, or Billy's, or the Draught House, or Ginny's Little Longhorn with the always popular chicken$hit bingo.

Austin has an intricate array of taxis and pedicabs, so drinking and driving shouldn't be an issue.

Any of you guys been to Hop Doddys yet?
It's a good burger experience, with a killer looking veggi burger for Amy.

I think we are all due for a lC meet on SoCo soon, whether it be joes, hopdoddy, guerros courtyard, or Homeslice.

El chile on east manor has a killer brunch/lunch and the best michelada I have ever had. They are best when experienced from the patio. So I suggest only if the weather is nice.

I'm in. The last time I drove the rustbucket to SoCo was a sunny Saturday afternoon last year. Parked on the street near the old fire station. When we came back from lunch there was a small crowd gathered around the truck, including a couple of firemen. They probably hadn't ever seen that much rust on one vehicle.

Would be cool to see a lineup of 40's there parked side by side.

Burgers and brewskis at Hopdoddy, mmmm.

Nice, not to hi jack my own thread but what is everyone's opinion on a 94, 4runner 4wd v6 very clean. It does have a leak, but the price seems right. I'm looking at buying it for a vehicle to leave up in Indiana when I visit so I can fly and not rent a car.

Thanks man, you are awesome. Let me know whenever he decides. Thanks!

Is it me or does Guero's food pretty much suck? I remember really liking it in 2002 or 2003 and moved away for a number of years. We checked it out after moving back and it was awful. Great locale though.

Anyone check this place out yet?

Easy Tiger : Bake Shop & Beer Garden : Austin, Texas

We had lunch at Koriente (one of our favorites) Welcome to Koriente and walked across the street to check it out. It has a nice beer garden and the beer selection is top notch.

Granted its not the greatest location...

That 3L is the suck (do a search on head gasket), you'll be much happier if you can find a '96+ with the 3.4L
