No offense, but there are a crap load of restaurants. More than most cities. The reason why you saw so many gay bars is because you were eating and bar hopping on the One street where all the gay bars are. That whole 5th and congress to 4th and Guadalupe area is nothing but Latino-international clubs and gay bars.

East 6th is your college kids from surrounding cities, tourists, and guys chasing 18 year olds

West 6th is your 25+ crowd. Nice bars.

I'm sorry your experience was at Maria Maria, though they do have a mean guacamole.

The restaurants tend to be in clusters on their own street. You were on bar streets. That why we'd recommended 2nd or even south congress.

Lol I obviously was not alive during the man's presidency. The history books and I imagine Texas history books especially paint mostly all presidents as the greatest thing since sliced bread. I enjoy listening to the old timers talk about history. I think Lee will school me on the Johnson family. I have been told that Johnson pretty much instigated the Vietnam war before the Vietcong directly targeted any US personnel and gained support by lying to the American public that the Vietcong had attacked first, however I'm uncertain that is factual

Oh it's factual all right, well documented by any number of historians. But Johnson was a lying POS long before that. You're a military guy. Try this out...

Davis,

I apologize if I offended you by speaking about Austin but we did walk all the way to the end of Congress from the Capitol. Actually we walked pretty much all over the city before the beer weighed my legs down. I really didn't feel that downtown Austin was comparable to most cities. While yes, the bar scene is strong, the restaurant scene is lacking for a Capitol city unless you are comparing it to Juneau. I've lived in 7 different states over the years, and I really wasn't impressed. It's a beautiful city and an area you guys should be proud of because it is alot better than little Mexico. I'm sure that just like any city there is a huge restaurant scene within city limits but definitely not in downtown. We were limited to downtown as we both wanted to drink, we both wanted to walk, and neither of us will drive when we have been drinking so therefore we were confined to downtown within reasonable walking distance. I understand everyone suggested alot of what must be great places however since it was my first time and Amy's first time in a long time, we were unfortunately not able to visit every spot this time. Next time we will go up on a Friday and venture further out and have more time to check these places out.
Once again, sorry if I offended you!

I'm not offended. Austin has more restaurant per capita than any city in the US. I find it funny that you walked by that many restaurants without realizing it j guess. Many nationally renown.

It was just a funny, untrue discription, and kind of disappointing that you ended up at a place that resembles a river walk San Antonio dining experience on your Austin trip.

I'm with Davis, there are plenty of places to eat downtown, you just didn't know about them. I'm kinda curious as to why you didn't use one of the more than a few iPhone apps to find a place, using the phone's geo location abilities? Urbanspoon, Around Me, Y! Sketch are just a few.

Alright alright, I guess I should have just said this.....

I had a great meal at a chain restaurant the wild salmon was excellent. The beers were great and I sampled some that I had never tried like St. Arnolds amber, Austin amber, throaty goat, moose drool, and a apricot beer. All were tasty but the drool was my pick of the night. Next time, we will adventure further out in Austin to maximize the experience. I hope to come up soon and drink a beer with you all. The first round is on me.

Now can I go back and delete my previous comments?

Fixed it for ya. :p

Ha ha... I definitely do not ride that wave.

Boo, chains.

You are definitely due for a redo, and you dont need to venture out. You litterally were within 1 block of Tons of dining if you walked where you said you did. You just happened to be on a street of office space.

Bring the cruiser and we will meet you in our beige cruiser for brunch. haaay.

Sully, you can pick up Moose Drool Brown Ale and their Big Sky IPA at your local HEB. Well, at least here in Austin :)

Nice, I'll add that to my grocery list. Thanks for the tip!

Sounds like a great plan! By the way did you get the tub off alright?

I think Amy and I are going to start going out on Sunday cruises in the 40 when it's done. The plan is to eat at a restaurant unique to the town and check out a local park. We will see if it happens but that's the plan. At 55, you can take in alot more of your surroundings unlike 70.

Ashley and I have the same goals. We are doing a mothers day run to go winery hoppin. ( my new build goal)

Enchanted rock, perdanales falls and Hamilton pool are on the destination list.

Do y'all have a dog? There are many dog friendly pubs here downtown: Docs motor works , cedar door, dog and duck pub. Than you could hit up Red Bud island. Very dog should experience this place. Or if you are feeling adventurous, I put in on the dock just west of MOPAC and kayak up to red bud isle with my dog (2 miles round trip) who swims most of the trip.
