Gday Mud community!
Here is my new project…. This came about due to me being sick a couple of weeks back and searching marketplace for rust free doors for my Hj61 (prob needs more than just the doors though!). I found this fj62 3F carby, 5 speed manual, 12 month 1989 with rust free doors and unmarked interior (apart from saas steering wheel / extra switches on the dash etc). I paid too much for an unlicensed 60, ($4500 AUD) for where I live - especially since there is more rust in the gutters than I first thought - but I am pretty competent at welding and metal fab, so that doesnt worry me!
Anyway - now the fight is on as my 18 yr old daughter, and my wife are both wanting it as their daily driver (my wife daily drives our 2014 ttd vx 200 series - with 900Nm) and my daughter drives a 1999 RAV4 that my wife bought new….
Will see here this takes us and how deep we go into it - and if I can get it licensed!!
Here are some pics!!

Beauty.

I don’t suppose anyone would know the colour of the fuel gauge wire under the dash? When I was pulling out all extra wires I think I disconnected it thinking it was to do with some add-on accessory, and now my fuel gauge isn’t working…

The Chassis & Body Repair Manual will have the correct wiring diagram at the very end. That includes all the wire colors ... See here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/resources/categories/60-series.1/

Under that link you'll see some downloads for service manuals listed. Sometimes Toyota changed things over the years that the 60 Series was made so you may need to reference several different years of the manuals to pinpoint what you need. Good luck, super cool truck!

Thanks mate!

Had a bit of a muck- around today.. went to the wreckers and got new passenger door glass and brake master cylinder to load proportioning valve hard lines, installed these with the new master cylinder…
I am now wondering how to install the rear door window (mine was smashed so came out easily!) do I need to remove the fixed window section? Also, do I install the metal rail (with rubber bit) to the bottom of the window before or after putting the window in? - does it get glued with anything - or just clamped?
Lastly… the window works with the master switch on the drivers door, but not the door switch… the switch looks clean on the inside, but nothing happens when pressed… where should I start looking??
Thanks heaps!!

I have been on work holidays for the past 2 weeks - but haven’t achieved a whole lot! Been frustrated with seized bolts, so spent a fair bit on a impact wrench which helpless me to remove the gas system and old tow bar..

What is going on there??? Is it running on propane or something??

By the way, I wish we had hopper stoppers in the states. Our moose and elk are insanely heavy.

Yep - back in the late 90’s or early 2000’s the Aus government would give you cash back to install lpg I to your car (petrol or diesel - I had gas injection installed into my 1hz 80 series)… nowadays it isn’t worth it (I believe) due to the lower mpg / less power / complexity of the system / wear on everything / availability of lpg etc…. This fj62 is going back to as standard as I can get it…

Ahhh! I remember hearing about that from a friend’s father. He worked for Lockheed Martin and was involved in alternative fuel systems I believe.

I wanna make an fj60 Ute with a system to run on torrified wood. Never run out of fuel as long as you can find the woods.
