Few more pieces showed up today. Got the bungs for my track bar. And picked up my front links and got those installed.

Note to self  Or anyone ever starting there own Build . Just strip everything down to the frame Cut all the BS old mounts off and build from there . When i start on the Blue 40 this winter I am starting with a Frame and will add parts as we go Never would i build in place again . To be 100 percent honest i have a friend with a CNC bender and i am actually thinking about Building a tube chassis for this one for Phase 2

Nothing special tonite. Just Cerakoted a few more parts

😳🤦🏻‍♂️🤔almost went on Craigslist again 😄. I put a diff in the front to measure for a driveline. And seen we had a problem 🤮. What I will end up doing is running my slip yoke At the transfer case side and that will buy me some much needed real estate. My Upper link mount Is so so close. But we only need it to work nothing more and I think we got it . Driveline will be ready next week

Clearance is clearance lol. Does it hit articulating?

Nothing to exciting. Just loading up for Cruise Moab this week . But I did get some new Hose fittings for my PS. The ones I had worked but I did not like how I had to route the hose since the shock towers is there. Much better now

Great build. I'm about 4-6 months ahead. I 4-linked/3-linked my FJ40 in October but during the winter my FJ40 has to do double duty as a snow plow so I'm just now getting to the point where I'm running it down the road. I'll be curious how your handling is. I'm really twitchy going down the highway and especially on curving roads. I'm trying to decide if it's 4-link rear steer since I'm just upper triangulated in the rear or if it's needs an anti-sway bar. I plan on running down the highway to get to trails or the 3-hour drive to Moab.

Hey @NikP, do you have a build thread?
No, I was just thinking about starting one just to share information with those who follow in our footsteps. I didn't take many pictures along the way but I think I took enough to help others.

I have no idea how it will drive . I did drive it with the rear done and it was fine but i have not yet since i have done the front . Honestly this is a trail only rig and will probably never get out of 4 low . We will see though you never know , be fun to cruise around town i guess

I had a reply in your build thread all typed out but ultimately decided to delete it because too many people are just straight negative these days and I didn't want to come across that way. I saw your rear links and wanted to question if you ran the geometry through the excel link calculators that are available on the web.

My '77 fj40 has a rear link geometry almost identical to yours. My lowers are fully outside the frame, and my uppers are up against the frame on the inside. I would guess what you are experiencing with the "twitchy" feeling is roll steer. When your body rolls, the rear axle over steers in the direction that you are turning. This causes a very uncomfortable back and forth on the steering wheel to keep the truck feeling like you are turning at a constant radius like our internal computers are used to navigating. A sway bar may help mask the issue, but the true correction is to fix the geometry. I have made the decision to just not drive my 40 on the street because of the terrible roll steer and have never taken the time to rework the links because i really only use the truck for off-roading and it functions well on the trail.

Not sure if you ment to reply to me or the other build 🤷‍♂️ But mine is not twitchy . At least when I drove it around it was not.

I quoted NikP, my reply was to his questions. Sorry.

No worries . I think since i have wider axles it helps triangulate i dont know . I honestly am not sure how NikP is getting the front to work with a oe axle :hmm:. there just is not alot of space to mount things on the pass side . I am curious how mine will handle ? I think if i was building to drive around i would stay Leaf and run 33-35s and just be happy .
