Bought a spare 4runner for parts to fix my Hilux. Got the door swapped out today, hopefully front quarter panel finished tomorrow. Color and sun wear are the same! Now just need to get a new bed

USAA just totalled my truck. They're paying out $19k, I'm paying $3K scrap price to keep it. Just need to get the bed fixed and it'll be on a rebuilt title.

Have been searching hard for the right bed, these things get snapped up quick on FB marketplace

Glad you got it sorted out! The Hilux lives on

Did Hagerty ever pay out on this?
I've been taking a break from posting for awhile. Been VERY busy. Short answer, is yes!

Hagerty first assigned me an adjuster who really wanted to try and fix the vehicle back to the original condition. He tried to get Amayama to send a brand new hilux bed from Japan. Obviously, that was a bust. Hagarty gave up trying to quote me for repairs after a few weeks and declared the vehicle a total loss. The total loss adjuster really had no idea what the scrap value should be. Because I had a guaranteed value policy, the scrap value was the only thing they had to figure out to cut me a check. In the end, I kept the truck and got payed out about $26,000.

To detail the damage. Truck was hit, while parked in a driveway by a girl that drove across someone's lawn about 500 yards, took out a mailbox, and eventually hit the Hilux. It spun 180 degrees, smashing another car with the driver side of the bed. Passenger bedside was smashed up pretty bad, all the leaf springs and the front suspension brackets bent, and the axle snapped right off on the passenger side. The cool stainless JDM rear step also got mangled. The axle hub and wheel went flying off into the neighbor's yard

Amazingly, the frame did not bend, nor was the axle housing damaged. Initially it looked like the damage was pretty bad. But when I started tearing everything down, I was impressed at how it had held up.

There is a local fabricator who does top-notch aluminum work. My plan was to have him build me a nice 6' bed with drop sides and tool boxes, and a spare tire mount. It will be modeled after the aussie style beds you see on LN106s. I decided since I was rebuilding the rear axle that this would also be an opportune time to pull my diffs, rebuild my front birfields, do seals on everything, and get some lockers and a regear. I will be posting a more extensive thread on the build list, and I haven't kept up with pictures of everything like I usually do - but long story short, I've been very busy.

Oh, and half that check that I got from Hagerty went to buying an 93 HDJ81. I picked it up in Nebraska about four weeks ago.

I will be posting more in the near future 😎

They are hard to find. That particular design only came on Japan trucks with the SSRX trim. I was going to swap the bar from the center truck on to mine. But then I saw this on BaT...

Yes, a roll bar crane. I reached out to the dealer in the hopes of getting in touch with the guy who bought it. No word yet.

Here's another one that sold a few years back.

So, that's my wet dream. I'd use that crane allll the time.

My trucks aren't mall crawlers. They get used and used hard. Thats what a hilux is for.
The green crane buyer from BaT is selling it for $18500 last I checked.
