Hey guys, I need help with getting tyre size right for the next set for the summer.

For those asking on use, I guess 50% - 50% (asphalt - gravel, mud, dirt).

I am looking towards to MT since I have the current set for the winter, so no MS needed.

So in short, I have 31 x 10.50 x R15 which is okish for the 3L (NA) engine. What do you thing will 33 x 10.5 x R15 will be an overkill for this rig and would it require some modifications?

im running 235/85/16 32ish on my na. seems fine.
what gears are you running.?
i haven't verified but my tag says 456
33s on 410/430s may be a little much

The final drive ratio will effect what tires you can comfortably run. My Hiluxes are all 4.30, 31s feel great. With 4.56 I bet you can get away with 33s. Your final drive ratio is roughly 6% difference from mine (4.3/4.56=0.943). And a 31 inch tire is 6% smaller than a 33 inch. (31/33=0.939). Therefore the same engine RPM will be achieved with a 4.56 and 33" or 4.30 with 31". :D

My trucks are G52 also.

Wow, interesting. Thanks for the calculations there.

I will try to get 33"'s somewhere to test out before I make my decision, get some load on the bed and hit the hills to see if its sweating a lot 🤣.

Without seeing the data plate I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that G52 refers to the transmission and the axle code will be Gxxx format. For example a 4.56 2-pinion 8” diff would be G252.

You are absolutely right, thanks for the link, I revisited the plate and indeed there is a code a bit right to the G52, marking G282. Learning something new every day, I really appreciate that man, thank you.

I went over other threads on G52 gearbox, and now knowing final ratio of 4.3 I think I would stick with the 31's, no need to stress out G52 too much, overall it seems like already well balanced combo, main use case, weekend camping, a bit of travel here and there, no rock crawling or anything extreme.

Most LN107s are 4.3, this makes sense, stick with 31s. You will be gearing down on steep grades to 4th or even 3rd gear, but it is drivable on the highway at 70mph. The 3L will always be somewhat of a slug for passing people on the highway.

Sweet rig and great work!! I have a 1993 LN107 3L Diesel RHD. My part of the country (NewHampshire USA) looks very similar to yours, mountainous with hardwood forests that turn beautiful colors. I worked with a man from Montenegro who showed me many gorgeous photos and promised to take me on a tour of your part of the world someday.

What a small world we live in, thank you! Please be free to ping me if you ever come here to take the route, I am very close to Montenegro just few hours of drive from my place, and I am willing to join just to meet up.

Beauty of it is that you can experience big difference in nature from plains, hills to mountains in relatively close areas near by.

Do you have some link to your rig to check it out?

My wife and I definitely plan to come to that part of the globe sometime soon, she works for a Belgian brewery so we visit Europe at least once a year. Would love to take a Hilux ride on some badass Serbian dirt roads!! I don't have too many pics of my Hilux yet as I just bought it and have been mostly using it for work the past few months. Haven't done anything very cool in it yet haha
