Clemson University starting defensive back Duane Coleman is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center, charged with marijuana possession.
Oconee County Sheriff James Singleton said that Coleman is charged with simple possession.
News 4 has learned that Coleman, a senior, was arrested on the drug possession charge after a traffic stop by Seneca Police.
Clemson head football coach Tommy Bowden said that "any suspension or discipline in this matter will be determined after I've reviewed the facts and met with Duane."
Among the decisions Bowden will have to make is how the arrest will affect Coleman's status for Clemson's Music City Bowl appearance against Kentucky next week.
Coleman holds the distinction of being the only player in Clemson history to start a bowl game on both sides of the ball.
He started at running back in the 2004 Peach Bowl and scored a touchdown that helped Clemson beat Tennessee.
Last season, he switched to defensive back in the middle of the season and started in the Champs Sports Bowl against Colorado.
This season, Coleman started all 12 games at cornerback.
After coming to Clemson as a partial academic qualifier and sitting out his first year, Coleman has completed all his graduation requirements halfway through his fifth year of school.
