Yep.... I have been contacted by the advertising agency for Toyota. They are seeking our help in scouting a location for the advertising photo shoot for the FJ in this area.

I need your help as follows: A river at least 27 inches deep and two lengths of the FJ in a well-known 4-wheeling area that is "legitimate" for off-road use. This area should also include trails with obstacles (or ob-stack-els, if you enjoyed O' Brother where art Thou). In addition, I need volunteers that can be on-site as a recovery crew in case our Carolina Ob-stack-els are too overwhelming for the FJ.

Post your ideas here as soon as possible because they want to do this shoot in the next COUPLE OF WEEKS. Volunteers??? Who wants to be there?

GO!!!

Sounds like fun to me!!!

I'm in. WHat about tellico.

Yes, I mentioned Tellico as the prime area. However, they sounded like they wanted to be closer to GVL so I though about Horsepasture River.

Depending on when and how far away I want to help or at least be there this time. (All depends on when the baby comes etc.)

On a location, I cant think of anywhere that is legitamate around me. Most places are short areas that are semi-private. Urgggh. I would love to see it go down this place we call "the rocks" Waterfall 4' +, river/creek driving, mud, etc.

Keep us posted, I am still kicking myself from missing the other FJ event! Makes me feel proud to drive Yotas though.

I want to go, Mt Estates. Theres no creek but there are some mud holes. Theres a place some clemson 4x4 guys went to near easley. I think it was called Orchard Mt or something like that maybe. I dont know if it has a creek but its legal and its got some rock outcrops and trails through the woods.

tough order

Geeez....high bar they set, huh? I know of NO rivers 27 inches deep
and wide as two FJs for crossing legally locally.
Gov't has seen to that.
The local LEGAL, PUBLIC areas are MG and HP and BF.
Stream crossing is a VERY big issue as to native species
of fish and vegatation. Local habitat is awfully unique.
That and the fact that the needed areas are CLOSED for the season.
I'm at a loss. BF sounds like the best bet.
Burrell's Ford has some challenging spots and isn't too difficult.
Maybe we are lucky and the beavers have the dam going.
Hehe....I've been up to the headlights there before.
A scout trip would be necessary to advise them on conditions.
Man.....I hope somebody has a better idea.
I wish I knew of they place they want. LOL...I'd go there weekly.
:grinpimp:
I'm there if we can give them something they want to do.
LOL...if Capt'n Jim was here we'd challenge them to the
driveway, then the mountain top. LOL...maybe knock out the bridge
for a water crossing. :grinpimp:
I'm available to help in any way I can.
Sombody needs to buy the 300 acres that contain the Hush Hole.
It's closed, but is for sale.
Dang, I wish we could fill the bill of particulars for Toyota.

For the 27" deep river, tell 'em to let the air out of the tires. :D

If you come up my SC approach road after one of our Florida Hurricanes makes it way up to the Upstate, the Little Eastatoe Creek that is normally 4" deep swells to 8 feet deep. Also washes the culvert away with it.

Keep me posted on this one. I'd like to tag along.......

Gundy,
How much is the 300 acres? I dont have the cash but just curious. Why not make it an upsate 4wd park?? :)

what about coming over the mountain to the area i was scouting out in my expedition trip? Not SC, but about 1 hour from Clemson and not nearly as far away as Tellico. Legit, rivers, creeks, rocks, trees, trails, privacy ect.....

Sounds good, Alex. Is there a spot that meets their criteria that you could Mapquest for me. please.

David, what part of Burrel's Ford are you referring to that has the river crossing? Can you pin-point it for me on a map. please?

Alex I think Davids right with the Burrells ford. When all us young guys went up there after the annual meeting last yr we rode in past the big camp ground in there and you cross a couple creeks and eventually it dies and you have to turn around. I remember standing about 18" deep in the creek shooting back so that we could get some cool shots. JP ended up bruying his cruiser up to the frame in there at the end of the trail in a mudhole. There was also some mudholes and stuff along the way.

No river crossing. That was the point. When a beaver flooded the road
was the only time there was a fording. :grinpimp:

Concretejungle's trip sure sounds right and he can be our guide.
Get the Prez some particulars as to what could be done in a day.
This sounds promising. Does Toyota want it to be a day event only?
Are they up for more camping? I notice they enjoyed camping
in the TT article. We do too. An expedition. That would be sweet!!!

Should we scout it first? Let's go!!!!

Yea, that looks like a good spot too. Mapquest east laporte, nc and you'll see the entrance to a bunch of expedition wheelin'. There is a good stream crossing about 15 minutes from the pavement up caney fork.

yeah the trails near cullowhee would be killer I actually purchased a new USGS map of this area tonight and as Concrete has said there are tons of trails in the area........, but they are about 3 hours from Greenville....... don't know what the limit is for distance from greeville. The only other possiblity for river crossing I know of is the Auger Hole road I mentioned from what I understand it crosses 4 rivers one of them being fairly deep, but we don't know the availabitly of this trail yet, I do intend to go up there this coming weekend and do some more research on the trails and the accessability.......... so we will know more then. Also I would be up for scouting some other local trails if anyone is interested this coming weekend, I just don't really want to go alone :D

Alex what kind of time frame do we have on producing a suitable trail???

here are the directions: http://www.mapquest.com/directions/...&2pl=&2v=&2n=&2pn=&2a=&2c=cullowhee&2s=nc&2z=

from Greenville to Cullowhee........ 2 hours :D not bad, and it would make a great two day event!!! I say if the FJ guys the Cullowhee idea lets go scout it next weekend :D

also here are rough directions to the Auger Hole Road in Rosman, NC

Oh and where ever it is the 62 and myself will be there; winch ready :D

I would go a different way than that if i were driving it. It's a little curvey, but a cooler drive to cut over the mountain and hit hwy 107 in cashiers. Mapquest says it's a 2 hour drive that way.

I'm not so sure that i can get there too quick though. That's sucking, but i can't do much about it right now. Next couple of weeks might not be doable for me :( .

Like I said before, I'm game to head out that way and don't need alot of time to plan. This coming weekend could work for me and it sounds like a blast!!

Just let me know. I'm def in for the FJ event and the pre-event scouting that needs to go down.

I know some great areas that fit the bill but they are too far from G'vegas, so scouting in the greater Brevard area sounds like a plan!!
