I'm guilty of being the Pflueger President fanboy! One thing I'd suggest for kayak fishing is a rod 6'6" or longer, especially if you're on relatively open water. You'll appreciate the extra casting distance when you're sitting at water level, not to mention the ability to easily follow a hooked fish that swims from side to side in front of the boat without getting hung up on the front pull handle or whatever's up there. Close casts to lots of overhanging areas on small water would make a shorter rod a better choice. Most of my rods are $50-$150 Bass Pro models that I buy when they're in the discount bin. Always been happy.

Well not any offshore fun but a few dock picks with kids, spent 7 years in Charleston and have yet to land a redfish until last night. She wasn’t a big one but still neat to see it snatch up a live shrimp as soon as it hit the water. Ended up with two yesterday evening on a rising tide.

Delayed a little. First rod they delivered was snapped - had a return authorization sticker on it. IE: someone broke it, returned it to Amazon and they sent the broken rod to me. If I had a dollar for every time a returned item was sent to me as new from Amazon, I'd have at least 4 dollars.
Anyway, rod and reel feel really nice. Responsive.

Enough for most of a year I hope. Those black rock fish make the best fish tacos ever. And the Sockeye salmon is great to eat any time. Not all that halibut is ours-there were 3 other guys with a share of that. My wife and I have "sashimi Sunday" almost every week all year so nothing goes to waste. Anyway, always a privilege to fish in Alaska. Headed back up September 1 for the Coho (Silver Salmon) run and can't wait. Already eating the Sockeye to make room for the Silvers!

I hope you can. I have had so many good times fishing there over the years, all I can do is appreciate it. It's awesome, and I feel very, very fortunate and humbled, to have experienced it. This is the 17th year in a row I've gone there, many years twice, and I appreciate and respect every time. I would like to go there for the Steelhead fishing, since in California, it's basically dead, but that's a spring time thing, and in the spring, I'm not in fishing mode. But the salmon fishing can be great, and every fisherman should check it out.
Environmental note: the fishing is not as good as it was. Just a fact. if it's global warming, or over fishing, or part of some bigger cycle, I don't know, but it's different. Even the Kenai was better fishing just 7-8 years ago. So if you are interested, go soon.

Weekend update, been slow inshore. We did spend some time at lake norman late last week and the catfish were showing up on the surface in strong numbers. We probably counted at least 30 while cruising the lake.
Upon return we tried the dock out again and ended up with a decent trout.
Also some decent shrimp...

Just largemouth and bluegill. We only fished for about 3 hours, John caught around 5-6 and I caught 3. Didn’t get on the water till a little before noon so we were in between the morning and evening bite so it was kinda slow.
