Crossmember

Is that part of this build? Will it be incorporated into the new crossmember? Its not smarter than you and can't outrun you. Poor:zilla: Take it to chat. This is a build thread.:p I want to see that thing run!:bounce::bounce2:

say what?

@SUUEEET:

Is that part of this build?
Yes. It was an experience during the build and therefore requires proper documentation on mud.

Will it be incorporated into the new crossmember? Maybe, I may decide it is fitting to stuff his arse inside of the crossmember before I weld it closed.

"...can't outrun you..": Did you read that he was inches from my face, at eye-level. Not much running there. Did I mention I hate snakes!?

This is a build thread:p Why, yes.. yes it is. my build thread.. and I can tell my snake story if I wish! ************

crossmember

Not done finalizing the perches... But a few pics I took mid progress before stick welding the perches. More tomorrow when I pull it back out. The poly mount is an Energy Suspension that fits perfect to the AA adapter and the 2 grade 5 bolts even fit! Replacing with grade 8 ones though. I used 1.5"x3" mild steel rectangular tubing. 10ga, for the crossmember. I went back and forth on design for clearance and ease of removal and because I didn't want to relocate my fuel lines and lessen my exhaust run space on the driver-side, I opted to make perches from 3/8" plate steel that come down off the frame rail ~1.5". I will be building armor around everything so it will be fine. I used all grade 8 hardware and the bolts are 4.5"x 9/16" There is a thick 1.5" sleeved cold roll piece that terminates each end for the bolt to go through. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow. That thing isn't going anywhere. The holes are all 5/8" and I went with 9/16" hardware. Here are some quick pictures.

I said way up yonder past the caution light, there's a little country store with an old coke sign and you gotta stop in and ask MS. Bell for some if her sweet tea. And a left will take ya to the interstate and a right will bring ya right back here to me.

Trent, do you kiss your momma with that mouth? ************

I'll put up some pics in a bit. got about an hour left to have it finished up.

So I was working in the shop, on the crossmember, the other night and my wife bangs on the roll-up door. I'm thinking why didn't she go to the pedestrian door.. She yelled and I couldn't hear because my welder and tunes were on. So I turn it all off and open the door to see what her deal was... she yells "SNAKE!" and said it was on the ground in front of the door somewhere. It's dark and I can't see the snake and my eyes aren't adjusted from the shop lights. I am looking and looking.. can't see anything. I'm in the threshold of the door and looking to my left, I catch something out of the corner of my eye. The **** snake had climbed up the door trim and was eye-level with me about 8" from my face. I hate snakes! I didn't know what kind it was because I could hear a rattle and could only see the bottom of his head, white. So I beat him silly into the shop's trim. Finally he fell and I finished him. It was just a rat snake BUT we had a blind small pug close to the door and it could have been wrapped up by this 4.5' waste of organic matter. Anyways.. For those of you that hate snakes too.. you can relate! And for those that didn't know, rat snakes can shake their tail and it sounds like a rattle.

A pic for the story-time...

I'm with you. I hate snakes, period!
Teach that SOB to imitate a rattlesnake!;).
About the only thing I might have done differently, is crap myself before I beat it to a bloody pulp!:lol:

Hell yeah!
Tell 'em 'bout it!:lol::D:beer:

Great build.

back at it

I've been so busy I haven't had an ounce of time to work on this project :( Finally I am getting some time free again and went ahead and pulled it all back out to regasket and paint (just wanted to mock up). I've got a throwout bearing but am going to grab a new one tomorrow so I have a new one instead. I also need a new hydraulic line for the clutch. And since I slapped on the t-case quick for mocking up the drivetrain to make sure clearances were all good, I need to pull that back off and rebuild it properly. :bounce:

tranny crossmember

So I never posted the pics of the crossmember and remembered.. OH.. That's because I never finished it :p Well. cleaned it up and primed it tonight. Here are a few pics of it.
This is what I used for the end:

transfer case rebuild

I decided I'd rebuild the transfer case since I have the full kit (thanks Georg @ valley hybrids).. Had it awhile actually. Spent tonight cleaning up and degreasing the case since I left it dirty to mock the drivetrain *sigh*. Here are few pics of what it looked like when I pulled it off.

so dirty.. bad me for leaving it uncleaned for so long :p

transfer case rebuild - done

Got the t-case rebuilt and if you end up getting a rebuild kit.. the one I got had everything, even extra stuff. It seems be the same kit for a later model tranny.. It had similar gasket that would fit a slightly different case and some extra o-rings and seals that I didn't use because of the adapter. This was my first time to rebuild one, and lessons learned if anyone rebuilds their case... Do it on a table.. I was dumb and started on the ground and kneeling for a long time makes you feel old fast. And because a lot of the seals are similar in size, I would clean the housing and then pop seal by seal and replace one at a time.. I popped all mine out and then had to test each one and took a few extra minutes to put the right ones on. Other than that, pretty easy. A press is needed too for the front output shaft and a bearing pulling.

Going to start cleaning up the frame up front and giving it fresh primer and paint before I put the motor back in there.

stripping front frame section

I ended up having to work today and only got a little time yesterday to start cleaning up the frame. Hopefully I will get some time to finish cleaning it up to spray in the next few days. Getting close. I need to pull the power steering pump off tomorrow to complete it. A pic of what it currently looks like:

motor work

Got the frame coated this weekend and started taking the motor down to paint it and regasket it and primarily to address the KDP. Made the tab, put in a new crank seal and installed a new gasket. Now prepping to paint it.

1: shows that I have the raised case (newer model).. kinda assumed by the year
IMAG0333.jpg

2: Made my tab thanks to a piece of stainless steel my buddy had laying around.
IMAG0336.jpg

3: new parts (oil seal, front case gasket, and new crank pully

Oh yea, do my KDP on Clifford for me please.

fixed

I changed the settings on my pictures and to restrict them, it changes all my links.. I'll leave them public since I'm posting them on a forum and all. Should be fixed so this thread is back to visually appealing

Motor Before

Step 1: Decide after KDP and all new gaskets, to recondition it visually. Look at this poor thing needing it's rust removed and fresh candy apple.. ok, well at least some shine!

Prep

Step 2: Cut a hole in the box... *grin*

Step 3: Media blast the motor until it is purdy
