Then we did some hood fitting and had a lot of room still !

we ended up coming up another 2 inches higher than it sits here and it gave us some great clearance from the diff, the power steering pump and gear box ect. Today Tony best be gettin some mounts made!

mounts

So I started fabbing up some mounts yesterday and started to cut out from some 3/8" plate just to find out that my consumables need replacing in my plasma cutting torch. It was cutting horribly. YAY me! So I started using my oxy/acet torch just to get through the material and I wasn't happy at the quality of cuts *shrug*. I don't want these looking nasty! :flipoff2:So I went after some extra electrodes and drag tips this afternoon. So I'll be back on it tonight.

Oh, everything I read said to mount the engine with about a 7 degree lean to the rear. I need to ask boots (or find it in his immense thread:p ) about his motor's lean.

progress

I had a lot of other things keeping from giving Oddie the attention she needs. So today, I worked on the motor mounts and went and pulled some parts off a guy's wrecked truck. Got an extra starter to save for a spare, AC compressor, water neck, brackets, alternator and most importantly, the vac and PS pump.

I cleaned them all up and stored them for the coming days..

Then the engine and frame mount for the driver side are done. This is my pretty 7018 run for those of you that get steamy over welds.

This is how it all looks:

No updates since february and all you give us is 2 pictures?

What Trent wants the world to see..

OK.. That's fair.. I do have some more pics I could share :p And with that, the first one is of Trent when he brought patches over for some maintenance before round-up. (you did ask for this pic, Trent.. ************ )

mocking up the first engine mount (driver-side), just tacked together:

This the the rough version of the engine mount above once complete and sandblasted a bit. I went through the hassle of having two pieces on the top to get more angle out away from the PS pump just to have forgotten that I'll be using a Cummins vacuum pump/PS pump combo that pushes those lines further back. I would have been fine. But I guess it will give me more clearance. I just wanted to keep the frame-side from being too low:

hrm

OK, so I got all excited having obtained the 6B brackets and accessories but looking, I'll need to make the passenger-side mount to use the middle, obviously. However, I wonder.. there is a sensor in the 4bt lower water neck but there is no place for that in the 6B bracket.. hrmm @ that one. Started to make a mid-mount for the passenger-side tonight.

almost hanging in there

I decided that I'm going to run the Sanden A/C off a custom bracket (will use part of the cast iron 6B piece) on the driver-side of the valve-covers and use a v-belt. I started measuring and the compressor with the bracket was ~6" and that left it tight within 0.5" so I scrapped the idea.. didn't want to move the motor driver-side more. Anyways, didn't get time today, but yesterday I built the passenger-side engine mount and tacked it together. Will stick it tomorrow and hopefully knock out the frame perch and get this show on the road.

Mocking up:

Cleaned, beveled, and about to tack it together:

whhee

Thanks Chuck and DWood! Definitely plan to go playing on the road as soon as it's done. Just an update from today, I pulled it back out after setting the mounts in, assembled the drivetrain ready to fish it all in and mount it up (rebuilt nv4500 and the AA adapter all mated). And now a pic for our sponsors :p

In and double-checking befor final welding

I had it all assembled outside.. but due to getting the drivetrain in alone, I pulled it back apart and put the tranny/adapter/t-case in from the bottom, motor from the top and mated them that way. Much easier since all together it's heavy.

Had a small issue with the alignment once all connected, having the tranny line up with the hole:
IMAG0177.jpg

IMAG0176.jpg

It is sucked up to the body well and there is a 2" distance from the highest part of the t-case and the body.

I tied a strap around the rear output of the t-case and sucked it to the driver-side. I'll need to just open the holes on the motor mount some to allow the inch I need down at the shifter. All connected and pulled over an inch:

Tomorrow I'll start the cross-member and then pull it back out to rebuild the t-case (got the kit sitting) and do final painting and cleaning of the motor and a light gasket/seal/belt fixing.

your wife says your in the shop and thats why your ignoring my text this morning... that thing best run soon biatch!

You make it look easy

Man, I REALLY want to hear this thing running! Looks like a great job and I can't get over those welds....textbook. Need to intensify my 4BT search.

post pictures of the cross member skank bag

and momma?

Trent, do you kiss your momma with that mouth? ************

I'll put up some pics in a bit. got about an hour left to have it finished up.

So I was working in the shop, on the crossmember, the other night and my wife bangs on the roll-up door. I'm thinking why didn't she go to the pedestrian door.. She yelled and I couldn't hear because my welder and tunes were on. So I turn it all off and open the door to see what her deal was... she yells "SNAKE!" and said it was on the ground in front of the door somewhere. It's dark and I can't see the snake and my eyes aren't adjusted from the shop lights. I am looking and looking.. can't see anything. I'm in the threshold of the door and looking to my left, I catch something out of the corner of my eye. The **** snake had climbed up the door trim and was eye-level with me about 8" from my face. I hate snakes! I didn't know what kind it was because I could hear a rattle and could only see the bottom of his head, white. So I beat him silly into the shop's trim. Finally he fell and I finished him. It was just a rat snake BUT we had a blind small pug close to the door and it could have been wrapped up by this 4.5' waste of organic matter. Anyways.. For those of you that hate snakes too.. you can relate! And for those that didn't know, rat snakes can shake their tail and it sounds like a rattle.

A pic for the story-time...
