Update after a lot of elbow grease of grinding and sanding:
I got the top "done". Coated with white raptor liner. It turned out just Okay. I put in two heavy duty greaseable hinges in the front so it tilts up.

I forgot to grab a picture of the inside. I coated the plywood with black bedliner and added 12 volt outlets and left some wiring in place for future lighting.
I removed the spare tire mount and cleaned up and coated with enamel paint and went ahead and put in a spare:

The original axle is still there. It pulls pretty good. I guess one day Calf should get a real trailer axle.

The End:

I have decided that is as much time I can dedicate to Calf. I'd rather spend free time and funds working on my 55. That is when I am not in the woods exploring in my 80 with my boys. Its a great start to a really unique and cool off road camper. My wife is tired of having it in the driveway and with no other plan to store it. I put it in my side yard and one of the neighbors called county compliance folks and complained.
So I am going to be looking for a new home for Calf. Someone who wants to finish it up. I'll be putting a for sale ad up soon once I decide what a fair price is. But in the meanwhile a couple of things it needs to be completely ready for the trails:
- If someone was to keep this top, It will need a couple of gas shocks to hold it up. It isn't lite weight.
- The rear door needs a handle. I got a twist style locking handle that would connect to the lever bars easy enough, but I was hoping to come across a rear handle. Couldn't bring myself to putting on the other handle.
- It will need better tires. The current set has full tread but has dry rot due to sitting for so long. I have a set I could throw in but they would need wheel spacers due to the offset.
-Trailer axle to replace the OEM.

Its been a fun project. But on to getting the 55 on the road.
