Treasures of the troopy

I feel like we should have kept it all and given it to Tony in a bag with the Troopy. We tossed all the momentums though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Whats cool is if he ever drives the PanAm south, I can put him in touch with folks who saw this Troopy in it’s previous life. We literally found this one a mile off the PanAm in Nicaragua. One guy there was really upset we got it. He owns an auto parts store and really wanted it. The owner actually turned down his offer six months to a year before we got it. He offered more than we paid. Last time I saw him in front of his store with this Troopy, he was all frowns. 😑

Cheers

Road tripping through central america in the early 90's is where I first saw and got hooked on 70 series cruisers- mainly Utes but the odd Troopy here and there. Nicaragua and El Salvador were pretty exciting in 93/94. 4 guys, 15 surfboards, and a giant old coleman family tent traveling in a 67 VW bus; sleeping on the side of the road and in peoples yards... no one knew what to think of us. Definitely want to do it again in my troopy soon.

Love the back story on Tony's truck, but you should have saved the treasures for him. I mean really, what more do you need except maybe a board- "a shaving razor, old crusty tooth brush, Latinas phone number, pad lock, pens, tooth picks and..." Perfect travel gear.

Sorry for the hijack 🤙

Man oh man, I love and nearly live for it. You MUST go again before you are to old.

I still have some gambling dice I found in my lip on the ceiling/roof. 🤣

Deep into fixing the old harness now.

The fuse panel was pretty trashed, several circuits melted from to big of a fuse. So we swapped in this 80-series fuse panel.

This stuff right here is the part that is down right terrifying to me. Electrical stuff, if not done VERY well, will plague the most beautiful, mechanically well built cars forever. I’ve seen so many crap cut and splice jobs, where someone saved money by using heavier gauge aluminum wire, or whatever connectors they had to hand, instead of doing it to OEM standard. Hats off to you @SNLC and your team. Quality work and attention to detail at every level.

Congratulations, looks good. A truly international build if memory serves, bought from South America and built in the US with a motor from Europe, an Aussie turbo and other performance bits, a roof tent conversion out of Africa and body panels out of the Middle East.

* body panels out of the Middle East, Japan, Australia and Canada 😬
