You don't sound overwhelmed at this point, ya?
I'm just reserving judgement until I have hard figures. Got caught with the gturbo, told everyone how great it was and then lost power when it got on the rollers. Once bitten twice shy

It's almost like peak power on the rollers doesn't matter much!

Not with drivability. Only with claimed performance. It was definitely a better turbo for everything except peak power

Id rather improved drivability in the real world than a turbo tuned for peak power on a dyno. If this new turbo satisfies your desire for peak power while still adding great real world driveability then that's great!

X2, how it moves 6,000+lbs down the road means far more to me than peak power numbers.

No argument there, I tow 2 ton regularly

  • I'm a newbie to the cruiser scene. An HJ-47 with a 1HD-T transplant is on my Chuck-et list. And have been following several links gaining knowledge (Such as it is) Y'all keep posting the good stuff and I'll keep reading it.
One thing I've learned over the years when it comes to cars and trucks....

SPEND YOUR MONEY ONCE! GET THE BEST YOU CAN GET EVEN IF IT COST A BIT MORE. IN THE LONG TERM IT'LL LAST MUCH LONGER THAN THE BARGAIN BRAND

Rob, I keep meaning to ask, which airbox do you have? The sound in your YouTube videos is absolutely intoxicating.

Also, you should post some videos with the new turbo :D
Xxi. Uses a duramax panel. I think a lot of the intake noise is due to the 4" stainless snorkel, it amplifies everything. When I bought it, it had a pod in a box with the same snorkel and the sound hasn't changed that much. I'll get round to a few videos of the new one soon ;) just got a bit on at the moment

Ok i'm looking at other options for turbos besides the CT26 style turbo upgrades. I have come across the Borgwarner EFR series turbo's and after a bit reading and putting figures into Borgwarners matchbot the EFR6758, EFR7163 and EFR7064 might be decent match but i'm know turbo guru. These turbo's would need a manifold adapter, oil and water lines to get it to fit up so not cheapest or easiest option.
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience's with these turbo's and what they think.

The 6758 would be my pick. I have experienced one in a 4.2 patrol with standard 11mm pump maxed . Quite responsive even with a lack of fuel and very good drive pressure . No dyno numer though .

Thanks Mcreight911. I have 1HDFTE powered 80 series which is maxed out with the usual mods, large fmc, 3'' exhust and unichip Q.
Drivability is what im after and i'll only try something new if i know i'm going to get results i want.
After a bit research i've noticed a few td42 patrol guys running the 6758 and seem impressed so far, or i just bite the bullet and go the proven and tested Gturbo.

Talk to the guy who built the prototype I'm running, he's had hi flow options available for a while, seeing 240+rwkw on FTE's and good drive ability. Much nicer price than gturbo

There's a lot of options coming on the market. UFI has a few results out now. G has done a set of new wheels for his turbos that come on so well. From my old grunter to my new bad boy there's 100 rpm between them as she comes on boost and is so much quieter.

The end of the day the performance comes back to ur setup. Poor setup and tune equals poor results.

As diesel performance grows more and more options pop up everyone wants a slice at the cake. Proven results and reliability is what I'd be looking for unless you like testing . Ufi have had toyota options for donkeys years it's just now their promoting it and testing engine specific turbos . I do like the UFI gear, more efficent than most others I've tried I haven't used any of Graeme's new stuff .

Keen to see robs procharge setup run

Very conservative tune to preserve the standard clutch
Run on inertia only dyno with no brake so low end response doesn't look as impressive as when run on dyno dynamics dyno or any other dyno that can adjust load.

Their 16,18 and 20g models are vastly different from the mhi models .

And no I don't work for UFi, just do performance diesel upgrades and tuning for mechanically injected diesels as a second job. I work from home in a small town where everyone knows everyone and your name and reputation is everything. I can't afford to use or promote products that fail or underperform .
