@northumbrian Have you ever had/driven a well setup turbo diesel? Will you have any point of reference to compare to? The turbo vs supercharger on a diesel debate is a mute point, everyone who's anyone (in the forced induction world) will tell you that a good turbo setup will always win over a great supercharger setup. Dougal is the one person that would know, but not too many people want to listen.

@gerg , to me it's about having some fun, playing around, thinking about how to do something.
But it would be nice if people would actually give me a chance rather than telling me what I am going to do, without actually knowing who I am.
The work I do will not be posted this afternoon, but after, moving house from France to Portugal, with a machine shop full of equipment, 20 horses, 7 Sheep, 2 Goats, 4 Cats, 2 Dogs, & a 16 year old son complete with surgically implanted PC & Xbox.
What I am going to do will not be done until everything else is done, and finances recover.

The design work for my little project will be done as and when I get time to do so. Anyone who understands engineering will know what I plan to do is not a 5 minute job.
I have to decide upon performance requirements, type of compressor/pump, materials, tooling, I have to design and construct and jigs & fixtures.
Design wise I have more calculations than you can shake stick at to wade through.

I'm not doing it to reinvent a square wheel, I'm doing it because I like a challenge, and this has grabbed my interest.

So all I ask is give me a chance ;)

@Locked79 My daily drive is an Audi A$ 3.0 TDI Quattro, which balls out goes like the clappers. I also had a Land Rover Discovery 2 TD5.
So a turbo diesel running nicely I know how they drive.
But it's not about finding a solution to a problem, the more I think about this, the more I want to do it for the hell of it.

At the end of the day my HJ60, will ultimately remain NA, but for the sake of messing around, I'll fit these toys to have a bit of fun.

I've spent way too much time taking life seriously, I just don't care anymore.
I know it won't work, but that's not why I'm doing it.

You have been warned. Fire is hot and will burn you, but if you need to stick your hand into a fire to learn that lessen yourself I look forward to your build thread. Please start a build thread so all of your design calculations can be posted for all to see. No secrets here. We share our successes and failures.

I have every intention of doing just that :D

@northumbrian - Screw it just do it. And don't sweat the calculations. Strap that thing on to your engine and go! Enjoy the experience- If I had my way all diesels would have a blower (of course, they would be 2 stroke, leak oil and be painted green...)

Definitely post up a build thread. Success or fail, it'll be a cool project to watch.

Check out whipple blowers for a super cool mind boggling, brain busting bit of gear.

I for one want to see you whip up one of them in the back shed :hillbilly:

Cheers! Just as I expected..

Next question.. I have lined up a supra turbo to pinch the comp wheel and cover off, I've already rebuilt my turbo, but I was flicking through the kinugawa website and eyeing off some of the goodies there.
Should I just buy their 60-1 wheel and cover and throw that on my turbo with one of their adjustable wastegates, Or am I better off going g with the supra mod?

I think the 60-1 compressors are too big for our application
Pretty sure they've been discussed somewhere in this thread.

The other problem I see here, is you...
When I say you, it's the fact you are the main one telling everyone, and I think with some people it is an issue they seem to have with you.
Sort of like a personal challenge to prove you wrong, because you are so clearly just another internet expert.
To me you're a very helpful chap, with tonnes of knowledge

However, I do feel the need to at least try to shut the others buggers up. Doubt it will happen but hey worth a try.
To me, whilst I don't particularly like failure, I do embrace it. As it is an important part of learning, and I will never stop learning.

I will design & build my own roots blower, as it'll be fun to do so, and whilst blowing my own trumpet I am pretty good in the machine shop.
Having said that I have found quite a few used supercharger units on Ebay for not a lot of money, as well as a load of turbos.
So, for the sake of doing to right, I'll just pick up appropriate used examples, and work with those.
The only problem is it'll have to wait until after moving house and the pennies have recovered enough to able to do so.
But in the meantime, there is nothing stopping me to getting on with the root blower design work.
Which if people are interested I will post a new thread detailing it.

I can admire your persistance. But if you want to build your own roots blower to prove me wrong you'll likely never get finished. Let alone prove anything. I have my own small machine shop too and I have a simple rule. If you can buy it, then buy it. I only make stuff I can't buy.

This is something I am not looking forward to one month from now, as I have to drag a trailer over the Massif Central in France and two mountain ranges in Spain to get to Portugal.
Which is one of the reasons I am thinking of using our other car, an Audi A4 3.0TDi to do it, as it will only have a handful of Sheep in it, so braking should not be an issue.
And, drive the HJ60 down without any load hanging off the back.

Your A4 has better brakes and alpine towing ability than your HJ60. Use that car.

I used to drive one of these hotted up way back in my younger years Detroit 8V92TT 700 HP. Them where the days :)

Single turbo version.

He must have a understanding wife having that thing on the back veranda blowing soot straight into the house. :)

It's not about proving you wrong, Dougal, as I don't see the point in trying to do that, I know your right.
This is about having fun, making something.
But you're right again, I am persistent.

As per the Audi, it's taken me a month to plant the seed in my wife's head so she "thinks" it was her idea to do so.
But again, you are completely right on your assessment.

That's a nice engine, and a nice sound to start the day listening to ;)

You're no doubt right about it being discussed. All good thanks for the reply.

I guess I'll go with the supra option and see where that gets me.

What's a safe pressure to run a ct26 with supra mod at?

Thanks guys, got my CT26 apart the other day.

I took my 45 for a first testdrive with the Karter hybrid CT26 and i'm all smiles. It's a bit laggy, but that could very well be the setting on the fuel pump. Not even a hint of black smoke off boost when i floored it.
The cruiser is not finished yet and not insured so i only took it on a short testdrive on a quiet road. But for now it absolutely flies when it's on boost. 13psi at this time.

Ultimately you will have to tune the truck. You cannot expect to drop a turbo and boom performance. Stuff needs tweaking.

Also have 3 of the turbine housing left for $25 a pop.

I should have bought those too, seems to be a bit of demand over here as the supra hybrid is becoming more well known.
