What your saying is exactly my point. You, nor anyone else on this forum that I am aware of, have seen, touched or driven in a truck with the Mamba turbo. Yet you are certain its "ebay quality" junk. The reviews and videos Ive seen contridict your statement.

I am not saying it is a great quality turbo. I have no experience either. I am just saying everyone here seems quick to judge their quality without anything to back it up.
Well, the wife just approved a Mamba for my birthday, so it's a matter of time before we get some solid results. I also promise before and after dyno results.

Show me where I have said Mamba, or any other is junk.

As per your last comment, there isn't a wealth of reviews or feedback to back up any claim as to it's quality.

Having rebuilt in 1hd-t due to a blown turbo (my fault), I'm a little reluctant to gamble on an unknown turbo with no reputation.

I suppose this is fair. Your "ebay quality" comment ensinuates poor quality. Unless you meant something else by that?

I agree there is not a wealth of reviews. I am just saying it should not be written off without any experience with it.
the gamble for the mamba for me is the 9 blade turbine wheel....
Please do elaborate?

Tweek, i elaborated on this earlier.
The 9 blade is a gamble because its 3 less blades than a stock TD05H wheel.
Now this means that it will provide less back pressure, the turbo will not respond as early as the 12 blade counterpart.

Just having a quick glance over the patrol forums and there are people running the 9 blade 8cm 18g and it seems to work alright.
It might be a good combination with the 7cm housing they provide.

ANYONE DOING THIS BORE OUT THE OIL FEED TO 2mm. Apparently people have had problems with the turbo starving due to too much of a restriction with the restrictor adaptor:

Read ones life away here:

Its only 199 pages...... Think this thread is bad. This is a whole other world.

Same here. 11 blades I could live with. 9 blades has been done to maximise turbine flow for high rpm and low boost petrol cars. At the expense of turbine efficiency.

That 8cm 18G is pretty sluggish!

@absalom, I wouldn't waste your time with the Mamba Billet CT26 - according to a local guy here's dyno graphs, they give little down low with the CT26 turbine. The Mamba CT20b produces solid results on a 1HD-T (more than 500 nm at 1500 rpm where the graph started) I will say that the quality of the Mamba product is good, a few guys around here have the CT20b, but I think when the time comes, I'm gonna go with something that's proven to be the best you can get, and IMHO, that's GTurbo.

The linked Mamba turbo does not use the CT26 turbine.

Perhaps yoy are thinking of this one?

Bolt-On TOYOTA CT26 Turbo w/GTX3071R 1HD-T / 1HD-FT Land Cruiser

It uses the CT26 turbine.

Good to know about the quality. Are you sure you are not getting these mixed up? I cannot find a Mamba CT20b replacement turbo.

@ForealBoreal I'm going to pull the trigger this week. If you HAD to pick one of these, which one would you pick if you were best looking to replicate the performance of the Gturbo Grunter Extreme?

MAMBA GTX Turbocharger TOYOTA Land Cruiser 1HD-FT 4.2L 2.4" TD05H-16G w/ 7cm Hsg --- First Option

MAMBA GTX Turbocharger TOYOTA Land Cruiser 1HD-FT 4.2L 2.4" TD05H-18G w/ 7cm Hsg ----- Second Option

MAMBA GTX Turbocharger TOYOTA Land Cruiser 1HD-FT 4.2L 2.4" TD05H-20G w/ 7cm Hsg ----- Third Option

To all others, I realize many are skeptical of the quality. I'm willing to take the risk and see if they're a viable option! So let's keep things positive and optimistic until proven otherwise.

Has anyone here got a genuine CT20B apart?

Here on Ebay is a shaft and wheel with a good turbine design: Toyota CT20B (Small CT26) Turbine wheel & Shaft STEEL

Here also on Ebay is a CHRA purported to be genuine showing the terrible paddle-wheel turbine design: Toyota Turbocharger Core Assembly CT20B Landcruiser 17202-17040 / 17201-17040

And anyone want to try a VNT CT26 turbo?

I think the eBay quality issues is mainly with the no name brand replica ct26s not so much the mamba or kinugawas. I think the main issue that was mentioned with those 2 was the compressor/turbine sizing for those turbos not being the best for our application. Why not try and find a genuine used supra turbo and mix and match, cheaper and easy to do.

@Dougal

Would you put the eBay listed one in your "generation 3" category?

So is the curve in the blades (vs paddle wheel) intended to give a smoother gas flow as gases change direction through the turbine housing?

Yes. The used CT20B turbine wheel above looks like what I'd call Gen 3 high torque wheel. Comparable to modern Holset, Garrett GTX, Borg Warner EFR etc.
Here's a GTX from ebay for comparison:

The paddle wheels are Gen 1. I see rubbish wheels like this all over ebay, even claiming to be genuine.

@absalom don't take my word for gospel.
I would be pestering Sumalaya if I were you saying you would buy one right now....
The 9 blade turbine thing is a huge unknown and I cannot point you to a turbo I think is best out of the mamba lineup solely because of that.
Only other option is to build up a CT20B turbine/housing and a Supra Comp wheel.
Or just pony up for a Gturbo where you know 100% what you are getting and a guy that stands fully behind his product. Yeah it costs more but poor men pay twice sometimes, would be s***ty to get something you aren't truly happy with.

What are your goals in the end, what boost do you want to run, any other engine mods planned? How long do you plan on keeping the truck.
All serious questions you should ask yourself instead of just gambling with the 9 blade mamba and potentially just losing 1k.
Then if it fails you are out 2 more thousand on top of that and you should have just went with the gturbo to begin with.

You're call ultimately.

Sooo .... 16g?

If I wanted tried and true, I would've bought a 2016 Honda Accord instead of blindly importing a 25 year old SUV with unknown (at the time) maintenance history. I take risks and I enjoy it. I just want your best educated guess from those three that I listed.
