Nothing too new with the build so far, been driving it, fueling it and thats been it. I decided i wanted to improve upon the awful output of the OEM halogens. I've done retrofits on everything i've owned so far so it was bound to be this rigs turn. I bought some spare headlights to run so i could take my time and knocked it out in a weekend. Love the OEM+ look and the output is night and day.

Said spare headlights will be posted for sale here shortly but here are the photos!

Opening brand new headlights was a little stessful but we got her done.

I ended up running the Morimoto 2.0 Bi-Led Projectors as they were plug and play. Just have to make the hole bigger so you can fit the much bigger diameter projector inside

After that you use the washers/isolators that come with it and slap her in. Wait til night fall to check the horizonal alignment before sealing it all back up. Final results

5 month update:

Tires have about 10k miles on them. No change in noise levels and no chunking. I think for 600$ they're turning out to be a real bargin of a tire. She's given me no issues at all along these 10k miles.

Im the VP of a TLCA local chapter here in South Carolina (Palmetto State Land Cruisers), and went out with a couple members to do some exploring. Was fun to get dirt on the ole girl for the first time. It's really capable in stock form. I love my Tacoma but this thing is different gravy.

Truck threw a P0158 (Bank 2 Sensor 2) code yesterday.

Attempted to remove the o2 sensor so i could get a replacement and she wasnt budging an inch.

Managed to use a pipe wrench to get it started but then there was too much binding and i didnt want to gall the threads or mangle the head too much so i stopped.

Tomorrow i'll head to the parts store and get a crows foot o2 socket and try again.

Anyone recommend a good thread lubricant to spray on the sensor?

This issue with all these 'penetrants' is that you really need to be able to get to the backside (exposed threads) or have the bolt vertical so the penetrant can creep. Thats if you can get the oil under the head of the bolt/sensor down to the threads.

On an o2 sensor, they are rarely completely vertical, you can't get to the baskside, and the heat from driving will kill any penetrant work

Yeah i watched a couple vids and none are quite on the level that an o2 sensor.

Im about at the point of thinking i'll just see what the socket will do tomorrrow. Either way removing a probs OEM sensor from a exhaust manifold with 265k miles is gonna be an absolute bitch to do lol.

Will report back tomorrow with what ends up happening.

It is done! When i got off work this morning i drove the truck all over town running all the errands i needed to run.

When i got home i left it running and drove it onto the ramps to lift the front end up.

Immediately i sprayed some penetrating oil on the sensor and smoked the yard up a little bit lol.

Came back an hour late and sprayed it down again and cracked it no problem with a pipe wrench.

Got the new sensor in and plugged in (man that spot is a bitch above the front driveshaft), cleared the codes and hopefully my P0158 code doesnt return.

Bad news, the code returned. I dreaded it would actually be the upstream one since it really does most of the heavy lifting out the two. It's in a hell of a spot as well...

A job for sunday i suppose. Guess i'll get one side done and when a code throws again i'll replace the other 2 on the drivers side

Got the Upstream P/S o2 sensor replaced.

Gonna drive the truck tomorrow and see if it returns. hopefully this is the end of my check engine lights.

Went to Gulches yesterday with a few of the guys from the club.

Bone stock rig and she did very well. Most of the blues were uneventful besides the Clemson Trail. Uphill with lots of holes that required me to give it the beans from time to time lol.

Only damage was a broken 7 pin mount and the steps

She did great and I feel confident I don’t need to mod this rig at all.

Next is URE Sometime this year

Need to figure out some way of routing my trailer plug so i dont rip it off again next time. lol

Any ideas? im thinking like a quickfist bolted into the side of the hitch so i can have the plug facing down out of the way.

I zip tie the plug to a rear frame rail above the spare until I need it, then zip tie under the bumper for occasional raft trailer towing.

A buddy of mine cut a small hole in his bumper and installed one of these, pretty slick

Funny cause ive got the plug zip tied around the rear tow hook. Guess i could just stow it up and out the way lol. Aint thought about that.

That bumper idea was something on my mind as well

Ive been wheeling a tacoma for almost 10 years and it was 2wd to start before i converted it about 8 years ago. I learned alot from that and with this rig i wanted to see what the hype is what ATRAC (its ****ing beautiful), and to see what a bone stock rig is capable of. Honestly im going to add a hidden winch mount and some sliders and i should be gucci. This thing is insane.

And it rides like a caddy lol.

Dont buy it right now. Wait till black friday. I got it for like 25% off with free shipping. Just pick your shroud. Get one a little more low profile. I wish i did. The shroud i have contacts slightly with the outer lense but it aint worth taking it back out.

you dont need the splitter. You'll just need to enlarge the hole enough to get that projector shaft through.

I reccomend buying the tightening tool (amazon) as that'll help with the lock ring. I didnt use jbweld or 4 bolt method, just enlarged the hole, and slapped it in.

Went wheeling and it hasnt thrown the alignment off at all.
