Last bit of info. Watch if you wish but in summary what I do here is show how a quick ingiton cycle often won’t fire the truck right up.

Don’t be afraid to stay in the starter until it fully cranks.

Also some info on how to get to my favorite sensor screen and what some of the readings can tell you if you have a bad O2 or a clogged fuel filter.

As I suspected, replacing the narrow belt with a phat OEM belt worked like a charm. I also added a new OEM Toyota for the alternator belt. He now has trail spares. The alternator belt was a bit too thin too.

People often try to match the fan belt with the Saginaw style power steering pulley. When that happens, the narrow belt rides down in the Land Cruiser pulley grooves and they squeal.

This is the belt set I pulled off.

This is the set I installed. His PS pump is located down where the smog pump goes. This is a good location because you can use the Toyota belt for this spot.

Here you can see the polished pulley I was mentioning. If your truck has a polished pulley your belt it too narrow

It is OK for the belt to ride HIGH on the non OEM PS pulley.

All quiet now.

Off to the throttle cable now

Throttle cable. This truck is just like the Mustard 78 I just built so the throttle cable tech was already figured out.
First off. Chuck it up in a solid vice

Bend it in small increments past the plate and where it has a slight reverse curve. Go slow so you don’t heat up the metal and weaken it

This is the final bend. Make sure you put a slight dog leg in it to the drivers side to clear the Ebrake handle when it’s disengaged

Next, drill out the ball

The tip of the socket is pointing at the screw hole you will drill out for the cable to pass

Then you make sure the throttle has a full range of motion.

WOT is usually anything over 80

once you get that determined you have to trim the cable. Make sure the piece that you tighten to hold the cable is already on because it’s almost impossible to rethread these cables once you cut them.

Now it’s time to drive it and let it learn. I find they usually are fully tuned within 2-300 miles.

This is the photo I’ve been wanting. This thing drives so much better. I can’t stretch it out yet since I am still waiting on the brake line but it’s so much smoother. Super pleased all around.

Finished this truck up with a new steering link. The one on the truck was bent around the too long shock body.

Trying to hold all of my excitement in an still act like I was engaged in my meeting just was not working out. I excused my self from the meeting, Hell I had a deal to make on a rare survivor! Everything they were betting their gums about in that meeting could wait. We all know these opportunities don’t come around every day!

We were now the owner of a sweet very original 67’ Fj40. My wife has always wanted a old convertible to cruse around town in. I told her that I would go through everything make it a DD and remove the top so that she could have a convertible! She was sold.

My wife followed John to the local DMV and did all of the tile paper work. Before she headed back home she made arrangements with him to pick up the 40 that weekend.

Brake line Boo Boo fixed thanks to @Cruiser Corps......

First test drive went great. The steering and braking are great. The new suspension is solid gold. I just need to pull the steering wheel and put it back on straight and this one just needs to be driven to let the sniper do it’s learning.

What shocks did it have that the relay rod had to be bent like that? Also, source for that flat head socket?
