What shocks did it have that the relay rod had to be bent like that? Also, source for that flat head socket?

They were 12” body Bilstien. The body of the shock was where the relay rod was supposed to be.

The 10” body work great for the shorter springs with the added clearance bonus

One thing I forgot to cover on the Sniper install.

With the Sniper I highly recommend an active vent/charcoal system. This is a high flow system that puts lots of fuel through the return.

In order for Charcoal systems to work they need vacuum.

Toyota had a check valve in the spaghetti system to that often gets tossed out when you desmog

I add a T into the vacuum advance line to only make the truck pull vacuum on the charcoal at RPM not at idle.

That way you don’t have the sniper fighting extra raw gas fumes at idle.

Took a break at lunchtime to go put 30 miles on Texas Red 1 and get in a speed run. All systems go to send this one back west

Where does the left hand line go from the check valve. Right goes to hard line on firewall that connects to canister I assume.

Vacuum source. In this case the base of the Sniper. It comes with 3 ports. I used the large one for 5/16” hose

Finally, a plug for using a bit of Indian Head Around your mounting surfaces. Cam does not recommend OE gaskets in addition to the stock isolator.

Just a little goes a long way. Next, make sure the vertical bolts that hold the sniper are in place on the manifold side and install the adapter

Next, put some RTV into the holes on the valve cover side. These holes go directly into the intake and can be a cause of a vacuum leak. View attachment 2228903
I use Indian head on the bottom of the Sniper gasket and leave the sniper side dry in case it has to come off. Tighten it down to get a good seal why your Indian Head is still wet.

Have you ever replaced a Howell FI with a sniper? If so what’s involved?
Thx

I spent some time tuning on Texas Red today. Truly the best thing for these Snipers is to drive them. Working on some cold stall issues and will report the findings as I make it through the steps.

it’s important to take steps one at a time when tuning to see if you are making a difference with each step.

Put some some miles on Texas Red 1 today. This thing drives like a dream.
Twisted it up (as best a SUA can twist) to see if i had any issues with the shock length but it’s all good.

Texas Red 2 - 1967 FJ40
It’s a cold day here in Mississippi. Wondering if this is the first trip out of the state of Texas for this old 67?

As @Drewk said, this truck is crazy complete. The seats even look original to me. Some of the knobs are gone due to some of the things Drew removed but it’s all here. Crazy. I love this thing. Super cool to see a survivor like this.

By looking at wear points around this truck I’d not be surprised if this was the first trip around the block On the odometer.
