Howdy! I got my first look at a 79 last summer. It is a very different body line between the tail lamps. The inner wall might mate up, but the outside would not even be close. John

Good luck finding a 79 tailgate. I did hear that the body styles were different. Sales of FJ55's were way down by this time. 55's are scarce and a 1979 FJ55 is going to be a rare beast indeed. A few had AC and PS.

Want a nice 79 with all the goodies and don't mind spending $60,000???

Wow that thing is amazing. Only 50 made?

Now I am definitly glad I got a 76.

The 76 is a great year actually. It came stock with the 2F, front discs, 4 speed etc and did not have too much emissions stuff. The humped hood looks cooler IMHO and the sales of the 76 were "strong." Later on sales declined (as did the FJ40's) until the redesign, AKA, the FJ60's came out. The most common 2F powered Pig was the 76...

Why does that have Selectros? I thought Piggies got the ASCO lockouts?

I'm going to pick up the '78 tailgate at the end of September, and I will let you know if it fits.

It should bolt right on. Both share the same tail light design; the tail gates should therefore be the same as well.
