I think we are a great community here on ih8mud.

We are always willing to help one another, no matter
  • where we live
  • what the differences are in our cultures
  • what the differences are in our standards of living
  • ... etc

So that's why I'm starting this thread.

Has anyone heard from mud member Coleman2347 (whom many of us know as Lee) or know of his whereabouts?

Here is a pic of his BJ40 ...

And here it is undergoing a recent repaint:

And included is this pic is the man I believe to be Lee himself:

BTW- All these pics come from this thread of his (where you'll also see a pic of his lovely partner and new baby):

Anyway ... For some time now, another concerned Mud-member (Edward531) and I have been discussing Lee's possible fate following the massive devastation dealt to his home city of Tacloban (in the Phillipines) by Typhoon Haiyan earlier this month.

Ted (Edward531) hold a responsible position in Manila and has lots of resources at his fingertips. But his searches of the lists of survivors, missing, and casualties have so far turned up nothing.

But did manage to find this:

So our ih8mud friend is not only a dedicated cruiserhead but it appears certain he is an ex USA marine. (I can't recall him mentioning that in any of his posts.)

What can we do?

Well I've thought about that and all I've managed to come up with for myself was to donate to the Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan appeal.

I think this is the best way we can all help and show we care..

I know there are serious disasters occuring throughout the world (and in this country too of course with our Christchurch Earthquake that people are still suffering the effects of today ... more than 2 years later). But this particular Typhoon stands out for me because of the scale of it's destruction and the fact that the victims were already impoverished by world standards in the first place.

PS. Sorry for posting non-tech in this forum ... but I think the circumstances warrant it.

PPS.There are plenty of alternative Aid Agencies to Red Cross and I was going to donate directly to a Phillipine-based Aid Agency but I think doing that would have subjected me to too much scam-risk. (Just something to beware of.. There are of course scumbags that will use any low-down trick for personal gain.)

I thought about him right after the hurricane and sent him a pm. I've heard nothing, so I hope he's OK and that it's just due to the lack of internet. I think if he had managed to get out in time, he'd have been on the internet before now. I don't think he's been on mud since a couple of days before landfall. I wish him well.

Thanks Tom for doing this. He's been on my mind as well. My family and I had to fly around the typhoon on our way to Perth. I looked out the window and thought "man, that looks nasty!" And yes, I remember him mentioning he was a former marine (there are no "ex" marines...). I wish him and his family all the best.

I don't know him, but seen posts-
-I'm not sure there is such a thing as "former" Marine, or "ex-Marine" I think it's simply Active duty or not active duty--my guess is he will be back on-line as soon as he gets all the folks who are in trouble as safe as he can.
I have a couple of military buddies who can do searches that I can't--maybe they can get info---

I've wondered about MUD members in that region and remembered there was one in particular , thanks for posting this and hope he's safe and sound .

The above ex-service quip is funny , a lot of folks around here let me know that as well .

Hi there. I just saw this thread and being from the Philippines i decided to
do a some of researching so i could help find Lee.

Browsed thru the latest report of our National Disaster Management office
(NDRMMC) which posts names of those killed who they were able to identify.
Didnt find his name there and also in the missing persons list posted in one of
the largest newspapers here.

Latest count of unidentified dead in Tacloban City as of Dec 2 is 2,067.

Browsing thru his posts i managed to nail down the street he lived
in. Baybay road just North of the MacArthur Landing Memorial Park.
Using google earth i found out the road lies smack along the beach fronting the
Pacific Ocean.

I just hope they managed to get to a well built evacuation center before the Haiyan struck as they were in the firing line of that typhoon.

Communications are just partially restored at the city and is limited to cellular calls for families communicating to loved ones in other places.

Unless he and his family relocate to a nearby city with internet access we
wont be getting any posts from him for a while as he has more pressing things
to worry about for now.

My mom is from a town just south of the city and is also hit hard.Fortunately all our relatives are safe and accounted for. Hope the same for Lee and his family.

USAF C-17 flew a whopping . . 675 . . men . .
and . . women . . children out of Tacloban
P.. I. . . in a single load.

I bet there wasn't one complaint of legroom and in-flight movie. One of the parts about being in the AF I miss, being able to make all the difference to the person in front of you.

Gods speed to them all and I hope Mr. Adams is found safe and sound.

I've not heard from him on LinkedIn either, so he's not just off mud. I generally hear from him pretty regularly on LinkedIn.

Chamba, same here. Anyone have any good news to share?

to edit: after I posted this comment I did a bit of research online and may have found his sister. I will let you all know if I get any info back either way.
