Glad you got to drive it....makes all the work worth while.....kind of....can't offer any advice about any of your questions...

buthere is one of my own....did you build your shifters??? I am still at it slowly...just wondering how yours turned out??

Nope no shifters yet. Don't have a front drive shaft either... Shifters do look like a PITA. I'm thinking about using Automatic transmission shifter cable for them, someone on here did that and said it worked well.

Told my :princess: that when she came up last weekend that she could drive the cruiser (she was most of the reason for the doubler and the auto). Tranny worked so so till then. Handed her the keys and off through the feild we went... no sway bars, no shocks, no tranny cover, no problem :flipoff2: The tranny went through all of the gears with her behind the wheel. AWSOME. I'm stoked. I finally got to drive it around today. My jeep buddy came over, we smoked cuban cigars and flexed it up on everything we could find... it was raining so no pictures... I will post up some flex type pics by the weekend. No real tech content 'cept for the tranny. But this was super encouraging and I'm some shocks and a frant drive shaft away from getting it on the road.

Thanks for everyone's help and encouragment
 Chris

Updates? I'm looking to duplicate this setup.

Thanks!

Update... uh... ok...
I've determined that the 2-4 band in the tranny is no good. So the transmission comes back out soon to replace that. It's been on the road everyday but no wheelin yet. I installed ford towers and shocks. I picked up a set of Gabriel Max Controls and they are awsome. I retubed the front driveshaft but I won't get to weld it back up until this weekend.

There's about 300 miles on this setup and no major trouble.
For the first time I can both drive over the speed limit  heck, even AT the speed limit AND take my hands off of the steering wheel while driving. On the trip down to Backsburg from Harrisonburg I maintained speed through the mountains and got about 12-14 MPG. I'm excited and I just found out that my vaccum advance had been unhooked.

The director of finances has been driving it quite a bit and is encouraging be to get some Q78 TSLs here soon so we can wheel. The club runs down to Uwharrie in October so we're gonna get it on trail soon.

I didn't realize I've gone so long without updating this thread. If anyone wants pcitures or such lemmie know.

Chris

that is answome news...very motivating...got a small leak between the 203 plate an the tranny...one check engine code still...gotta get back workin on mine...Surf and Turf is right around the corner in november and that was my goal...

Little bit of a dissappointing trail report

Got it on the trail a little this evening. Trail tested a little early... needs some more work. I don't have shifters so I had to reach through the floor to get 4wd in and the cases in low. Couldn't get the Toy case in low.

Made it about 150 yards before hitting this mud hole... and since weh8mud I tried to go around...

Hooked the winch around the B-pillar to get it steady and the boss :princess: took over and drove it back while we spotted.

Tech: All terrains and mud are really bad
I haven't wheeled in a long time
Reverse went out... I gotta take a better look at this tranny
Put an 1800 RPM stall converter in (supposed stock replacement) and I'm not happy with it... in single low 1800 is a lot of motor to be turning... I had some heat issues with it for sure

Chris

Learn to embrace the mud.....

Glad to see you got to get out and play. You got a cooler on your trans? 1800 stall sounds decently tight.

When you headed to Uwharrie?

I was getting worried... but two days behind the first box comes....

the rest of the parts :grinpimp: My mom was so happy to see um  that she didn't even complain when I spread everything out on the counter to take a picture to post up on mud.

Thanks for the offer though TOY350...

AWWW s***! I forgot to ScotchGard my TC gears:doh:

Ed;)

Uh oh... you might wanna check that... I hope you at least put some muffins in there...

Tech: 24hours tranny pull -> rebuild -> back in and drive. I've got 4 gears again!

Got the doubler crawling for the first time last weekend... it's nasty... auto and a doubler... feels like cheating! :flipofff2:

Not the most exciting picture...

Sorry for those who are tired of me dragging this ole' thread back up... but I hate searching and finding these opened threads... few more leaks and a few more pics and I'll seal it back up ;)

Noice!

Glad to see you get it working...never got mine done..just sold it and am now cruiser less but no headaches either...

Badass, i would love to have that much gear.

Glad you finally got it running.

Sold it? that's crazy! I need to seal up the transmission a little better and then I think I'll really be able to leave it alone for a while.

Right now the tranny is pouring ATF into the t-case... I'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to seal between the two and still lubricate that last bushing in the tailshaft...

You need to get that thing finished and bring it up the the fall crawl in october.

That's over a month away... that might happen... :D

Anyone know where the 700R4 is supposed to seal to the NP203? or if I can run ATF in the 203 so that when it "shares" with the tranny it's not such a big deal?

Thanks
Chris

PM georg about the seal...he's the tranny guru...

good to see it is still alive :grinpimp:

I'll be at fall crawl and so should you....next time you're in H'burg - give me a shout and we'll grab a bite to eat...I have a few more trucks to show you...

bk

I think the seal for the tranny fluid should be in the 203 case, not in the 700r4. I found this giant image of the doubler setup, let me see if i can find it.
