Chip crumbs in my carb! (1 Viewer)

So I recently went on a road trip and part way through I opened the air cleaner just tinkering around and found this

I cleaned them out as best I could but looking down into the carb I saw a crumb or two made it past the filter…

Now it’s having an issue where it bucks and blows black smoke and dies unless I put the accelerator pedal to the floor. When I get out to look around there’s a puddle of gas under the carb coming out from the various twisty bits- secondary diaphragm connector area and this other valve (I can’t remember the names of these components sorry)

Anyway now I’m just sitting in the parking lot waiting for the gas to evaporate so I can get it going and rev it till it runs normal (worked last week).

Any help is appreciated on what to do next, I’d hate to rebuild the carb since it was just taken apart last year.

Here’s a video of what it’s like after I get it started once the gas evaporates. If I stop revving she dies. That was a scary trip home luckily I was only a few minutes away and took the back roads.

RATS ! (or mice)

Your issue may or may not be from the crap in the Air Cleaner but looks like running rich (black smoke). Chips would have been on the OUTSIDE of the Air filter so would not have been sucked into carb unless mice chewed a hole in it or cover didn't seal completely.

Looks like the Slow Cut valve is leaking. Time for a rebuild and to bypass that SCV

somehow it didn’t make a seal at the filter and some crumbs got past unfortunately. No signs of rodents. At this point I’m considering a switch to EFI given it’s already a big ticket to rebuild the carburetor. It got rebuilt a year ago! Maybe they have some sort of warranty but even if so I have now lost all trust in L1 automotive in Loveland CO beware.

You might try the 'Italian Tune-up' if you suspect a blocked carb circuit: Remove the top stud on the carb and have someone keep the RPMs to 1500 or so then put a plate or something over the carb opening until the engine dies. Sometimes this can vacuum bump can dislodge a blocked passage. There are other threads on how to do this. I've never personally tired this so do some research, first, should you want to try.
