Hi all

were is the engine block Coolant Drain Plug on a 3F 62 please, should I touch it at all and leave it be

I've replaced upper and lower thermostat housing, new thermostat, new lower thermostat housing sensor, new clutch fan, new water pump, new gaskets and new hose's, new aluminium radiator, temperature still rises and drops and rises and drops never seen it like that before with all the older gear in place, but doesn't go pass the H mark on the dash

any ideas ?

Should be on the left rear of the block, as with 2F engines. A few inches ahead of the bellhousing. Many pix on Mud in the '40 section of the location.

You should definitely drain the block if you haven't already done so. There could well be a blockage in one of the water jackets, especially if someone dumped some stop-leak crap in there at some point.

Have you confirmed the temperature oscillation with an infrared thermometer? That would help rule out problems with the temp gauge, sensor, and wiring.

Did you put an Aisin clutch fan in or an aftermarket? Many of the cheap aftermarket units will not work correctly in your FJ62. Only use an Aisin fan clutch.

Mark...

Yes I had seen a post about the clutch fan in the past and with that very model/brand

NO I haven't done a temperature oscillation thingy my self, but when I had issues with the the original radiator the local mechanic had used some sort of stop-leak to get me home which was just under 2km away, but if I can't nut this out after fitting my new JTX head lights, I'll hunt for the Drain Plug and go from there if NO joy it will go back to the local mechanic for him to sort out

Thanks I'll have a look for it tommorow and if it is wise to remove depending on condition and looks

Do you have a copy of the Factory Service Manual? The start of each chapter has a nice troubleshooting guide to help you know which subsystems to look at.

This drawing from the FSM shows the location of the block drain. All you do it loosen it off and let the coolant out. That's really all there is to it. If you open the block drain and no fluid comes out, it's likely because the water jacket is clogged by the "stop leak" crap the mechanic added to your cooling system.

While we're on the topic: find a new mechanic.
