Yeah the frame looks bad.. but it'll be better. And yeah... some local guy here tried when I first got it.... tried

I was pondering a spring over and then at Brian's tonight I was talkin about it and he put the damn perches in my hands and therefor removed my last excuse.. haha

I gotta be back in blacksburg this weekend for ring dance :( tux and all... so Friday she'd better be sitting back on her axles with the frame patched and the tranny in it... times a tickin!

It's ON!... and I warned my mom that with the auto tranny... it can make the truck look like it's sitting higher... uh yeah...;)

SOA...you won't be disappointed! Great clearance and perfect driveline angles with that auto and reduction box.

Good luck. You are going to dig the SOA.

Hell Yeeaaah. I will be there.

ROFLMAO DUDE!!!! Having met your mom a few times, I bet she believed it too LOL

I wish I was there to help man, even grinding would be more fun than the crap I got going on at school this week.

BTW, Erica is officially back in the bag :D

Yeah! come grind! I hate grinding... espically under the truck. I'm only doin the necessary frame repair to get the damn tranny in then finish the frame repair AFTER SOA.

Aside from a grinder bit--assiatant... I need someone to trun the weather off and the heat up in the garage... er outside. Go figure it's warm and sunny before my spring break.. I roll home and it snows for the first time in months

3/4 of one side plated and tacked in place... on to the other side!

BTW the guy I've been borrowing the stick welder from has a freekin brand new lincoln tig! He says he can use it a little... time to learn tig! I bet he'd let me have it for the summer too!

Here's an update. The flexplate is the wrong size  Seriously... didn't see THAT coming, haha! the other side of the frame rail is cut out and waiting for steel.

No pictures till I grind my welds :flipoff2:

I did get to run a nickle rod to stick up an exhaust manifold... that thing flowed NAWICE.... too bad the rods are $2.75 EACH.

I'm too tired to go back out tonight to take pictures. But we got the tranny in (minus the flex plate and torque converter) and fabbed up the tranny mount. We confirmed the motor angle and with the engine like it is the tranny mount will be almost flush with the bottom of the frame! So with a little more work I'm planning on having the underside totally protected (no belly pan but "sliders").

Tomarrow I need to finsih up the tranny mount and do a little more welding on the frame then I start on the rear axle for SOA. Rear tomarrow and then front on Friday! Maybe I'll even post up some pictures.

Tech question: what rod do I need to weld the perches onto a cast housing with an AC arc welder?

Chris

Pictures boy. I need pictures.

Oh, and what are you doing for steering?

High steer arms from Marlin. They should work with my stock tie rods and stuff (they're almost brand new). I'll have to make a new upper tie rod (from the box to the knuckle). That should be pretty easy... I actually have an extra tie rod... I just can't remember if it's the upper or lower.

It's a sweatering 40* here this morning. Big plans for today.

Your housing is cast? Every other Toyota axle housing I've seen is stampted sheet metal, probably the easiest axles to weld to in existance...

Ary

Maybe it's not cast... I donno. The rear axle is all one piece like an 8"... I figured they'd have to be cast.

Anyone?

Ih8dull drill bits!

Chris

60 series axle housings are fab'd steel pieces. The third member is cast but you don't want to weld that in place. I'd run whatever rod you're using on the rest of the job. 6010 is my favorite for dirty metal but I think you need a different 6010 to run AC ("normal" 6010 likes DC-).

Pictures of the slow progress.

Observation: It sucks to work by yourself, haha I need to make some... what are they called?... oh yeah! Friends!

Got the cross member in (I still need to finish the ends... the 1x1 is open) and... and... that's it for that.

Started SOA. Got the axle out and perches tacked in place but I ran out of time.

Here's where the tranny will end up... I have the crossmember in but didn't get a picture. I like that it's tucked up in the frame rails

After tomarrow I think I'll have to wait till school's out before I can come back up and work on it :(:( but here's a before picture of the SOA. I pulled one axle myself (that was a job and a half!) and we may have both axles under it SOA tomarrow... It is funny how in these build threads no one mentions the crappy jobs... like spending 45 mins to get the freekin e-brake cable off. Or trying to grind the top of the axle where you can't see it to tack the perches in place.

(I'm linking all of my pictures so I'm not a total waste of Woody's space)

Nice dude, I'm LOVIN the stump jackstand action :D

Oh, and I've failed as a friend. You have those cinder blocks loaded in the totally wrong direction and they are prone to immediate and unwarned failure. Please do something about them ASAP!! (not kidding here, in fact I'm gonna call you right now)

I can't believe it, but that's the first time I've seen the 60 on those tires. I never did see it in person since you got 'em. Weird...

I know you got crap all weekend w/ the boss, but gimme a shout if/when you get a free minute, I wanna check out those axle tubes. :D
