Maybe a dumb question. Do I have to remove the supercharger to change the supercharger oil? The plug is on the bottom, seems like barely any oil would fit in there. Is there just not much oil in it?

Helpful links for future reference.

Procedure for changing oil.

Quantity for the Eaton/Magnusson M90 i.e. same as TRD SC = 6.1 oz.

I haven't seen anything definitive but read on Supercharger forums that 60-70k mileage was too long to go without changing. A YouTube video on a GM Pontiac with the factory M90 said every 50-60k.

My TRD supercharger has approx. 50k miles since Magnusson rebuilt it 15 years ago and I'd say my oil was due. The oil is significantly darker than the new GM Supercharger oil.

I’ve got 150,000 miles on my TRD SC. I’ve serviced every 50,000 miles, with the last service 5,000 miles ago when we rebuilt my 1FZ-FE at 250,000 miles.

Well I knock the rotor section loose when removing the nose cone. I noticed no Loctite 518 sealant in between it and the case. So figured I'd remove clean, reseal and reinstall until I saw this. The rotor edges have scored the housing. Ugh!

The bearings were all replaced when I had it rebuilt or so I thought. They seem to be tight in the case when rotated. Perhaps this is old damage prior to rebuild.

Was your servicing an oil change only or bearing replacement too?

I put it all back together and oiled with GM Supercharger oil that has been in my tool box, triple bagged, for the last 15 years.

Spun it a bunch and she's tight. No noises or wobble.

Must have been damage prior to last rebuild. I'll reinstall and run it and see how it goes.

Following up on the supercharger oil change.

The GM supercharger oil change seems to have quieted it down. The coupler was tight with no indications of wear. Getting max 4.5 psi boost with the stock TRD pulley so no change to previous observations.

It was relatively clean inside when compared to other M90 units seen on YouTube.
